Anyway, it's just a simple minecraft launcher, the frontend and backend are separated so making a GUI would be fairly straightforward, however I am not interested in doing it myself. It currently supports authentication via microsoft services & launching vanilla and fabric (I haven't tested pre 1.13 for now, but I think it might be working/very close to). forge & quilt will likely be added eventually. The project can be found here:
If I want to move to Prism Launcher now, I would have to redownload everything again from scratch (more than 5-7 gigabytes of small files when my Internet is slow) , configure different JRE versions for different versions of Minecraft, set all my controls for each and every version again, add my server lists again, copy over (compatible) worlds to every instance, copy texture packs and set it and change (mostly video) settings in every version for the most performance. I'm willing to make the time investment to change the settings, controls and copy the other stuff like texture packs and worlds but it's the redownloading part that takes too long. I wouldn't even mind it if I can actually do it BUT some versions literally won't even download, like old Vanilla Minecraft versions and Beta versions which I still occasionally play on for some worlds and servers. I also looked into the PrismLauncher folder in AppData and it has a folder named instances where everything is stored. But I would have to individually copy every single thing there as every instance has its own .minecraft folder.
Terminal seems to recognize 'minecraft-launcher' as a command, as it doesn't throw any errors, but when I run 'ps -au grep minecraft', the only process running is my command. When I run it from the desktop, I get the spinning cursor (which I imagine means it's doing something), but then it just disappears and nothing happens.
There is no sound ingame (worlds and menus are silent) on any minecraft version. I'm using pipewire. All other multimedia works fine (playing music, videos etc). Have anyone encountered something like this before with this launcher?
bryiewes,Yeah I figured out that it was a Manjaro issue, but now it simply will not install now since it leaves bad config or something behind. Manjaro just randomly over complicates the user experience and not because it is hard to understand just that nobody asked for that particular interaction. KDE Wallet is just badly introduced to the user. 90% of folks don't expect an OS level password manager to just shove itself into how they normally interact with a computer. worse its broken anyway. besides asking "why the fuck did it show up when i am literally just installing minecraft" it errors out when you select any option.
What do you mean by key nonsense. Also, manjaro has it's own issues that cause further issues. Don't try to bring the topic of "it's not required on windows" onto this site, windows and arch Linux are drastically different. My suggestions for your problem are to a. Use regular arch b. Use prism launcher (multimc was great, this is better, and polymc can't be trusted.) c. Don't play minecraft.
I am making a program in Java that involves me starting up the Minecraft launcher through the program itself. I've seen a way to do this using ProcessBuilders and stuff like that. However, I do not want the launcher to run to the default minecraft folder directory (minecraft on mac, .minecraft on windows). Is there a way that I can run the launcher through my program with the files set towards a different directory?
I have been playing minecraft for a long time on ubuntu but I have always used the old 'java' launcher.Since there is a new launcher I would like to update minecraft to that. I have searched the internet but can't update it whatever I do even reinstalling the game won't fix it.Can anyone help me?
I'm trying to setup Minecraft for my daughters on their own OS X accounts of our new computer. At this point I'm using normal un-restricted accounts while I troubleshoot. Whatever account I "install" minecraft on it will work. But if I switch users and launch it then I get the error "Minecraft updater - Unable to start Minecraft, if you are running from a dmg, please drag to Applications and try again."
I am not running the DMG. I've installed it via drag and drop to the apps folder and then deleted the dmg etc. So it works on the users account that I install it but that error pops up on any other accounts that I try to open minecraft with later.
Ok, first off I installed it in the admin account originally and on my latest try. As far as "root". It's in the root applications folder but the "application support" folder for minecraft is in my admin user profile and not the root from what I can tell. When I get home maybe I'll try to move that folder and see if it helps. Though I'm not sure if that will confuse the app since it's likely looking in that specific location it was installed.
I encountered this recently. What I discovered is that the .app is correctly installed in /Applications However the launcher and related data is installed to /Users//Library/Application Support/minecraft Every other user that attempted to launch the .app would fail with the error the OP reported. Simply changing the .app and it's Contents folder to R+W for everyone did not solve my particular issue.
However, uninstalling and reinstalling using the "legacy" installer did. Just make sure to backup your /Library/Application Support/minecraft folder first in case you have mods and other data installed there.
I've recently changed to the new Minecraft launcher, and I have noticed a change in the .minecraft folder layout. I can no longer install mods just by copying it over into the versions/1.6.1 jar file, as this file refreshes every time it is launched.
However, there's still a way to do it. Go into the versions folder inside .minecraft, and copy the version you want to mod. Rename the copied folder, and both the files inside, to some new name, say "modded 1.blah". Lastly, open the .json file in a text editor, and change the line that will read something like "id": "1.6.1", so that the ID matches the new name. The new launcher should now show a version "modded 1.blah" in the list, but since that version doesn't exist on the Minecraft servers, it won't get overwritten. Splay open and tinker with the .jar file in there the same way you always would with the old launcher.
Note:
If you are using the new launcher with an older version of Minecraft, then the mods you are using may attempt to access files in the bin folder directly. If this is the case, you can simply create a folder named 'bin' in the .minecraft folder where they are looking for it, and add the files the mod needs in there. The mod should find the files, and carry on as it used to, not knowing the difference.
There is a way. Go to your .minecraft folder, go into versions and click 1.6.1 then add a .zip file extension to 1.6.1.jar to make it 1.6.1.jar.zip. Double click it, then drag the mod files into the folder called 1.6.1.jar.
If I try to go ahead and install forge for client it tells me "There is no minecraft launcher profile at this location, you need to run the launcher first!" Even though I have run the launcher many times.
Do notice that the Minecraft launcher is different from the actual minecraft game. The Minecraft launcher has been detected by the graphics card and I believe it's powering it but the actual game is powered by the integrated graphics card. The Minecraft game is a java environment which when I added it to the Radeon Settings showed me that it was another game called Jedi Academy or something along those lines. Even when Minecraft is running, the graphics card it uses is still the integrated one after adding the Javaw.exe environment to the Radeon settings.
Does anyone have any suggestions or fixes of their own? Thanks in advance.
The in game settings are not going to enable/disable gpu usage. From what I can tell it could only be a driver issue, I would make sure other games use the gpu. I would also make sure you have a currently supported gpu. I do not really see why the gpu would not be recognized and use for minecraft by windows if you followed the above steps. Therefore, it would have to be either the gpu itself or the game. Minecraft java can be a bit finicky to work with due to its age too.
The main "Play" section allows the user to download (if needed) and launch Minecraft: Java Edition with the "Play" button, and also includes an installation selection on the left (which sorts installations by last played), the user's Java Edition username on the right, and a list of the latest news for the game from minecraft.net below.
In the "Installations" section, custom installations can be created and edited. There are buttons to sort and search installations, as well as checkboxes to enable installations with "Releases", "Snapshot", and "Modded" versions of the game. Installations are stored in launcher_profiles.json (or launcher_profiles_microsoft_store.json when using the new Minecraft Launcher for Windows) in the game's directory (.minecraft).
The main "Play" section allows the user to download (if needed) and launch Minecraft for Windows (Bedrock Edition) with the "Play" button, and also includes the user's Xbox Gamertag on the right, and a list of the latest news for the game from minecraft.net below.
The main "Play" section allows the user to download (if needed) and launch the latest version of Minecraft Dungeons with the "Play" button, and also includes images from the game and a list of the latest news articles from minecraft.net below. This section also contains a notice that the game can be purchased separately from Microsoft Store for Windows. If the player is not playing on the supported platform, a small message on the bottom is shown that displays: Where is the play button?! Minecraft Dungeons isn't available on (platform).
