Chromecast-compatible video formats?

I recently acquired a Chromecast and was interested in doing some integration with Twitch. I've heard rumors that Twitch will be doing this themselves this year, but it's still fun to experiment and play with new tech.

From what I can tell, the only Twitch video embedding options currently available are Flash and HLS. Unfortunately, Chromecast does not have Flash support only appears to support H.264 and VP8 video formats, so I don't think this native integration is currently possible.

Is my understanding correct, or does Twitch expose other video formats? If not, is there any timeline available as to when/if other formats will be supported?
