In 2013 the Lewiston City Council deleted a $100,000 line
item from the city's budget. The line items was specifically
targeted at sidewalk interconnectivity improvements. It
could also have been beneficially used as a source of matching
funds to help the city capture several other sources of
financing that require matches ranging from about 8% to 20% of
total project cost.
If those matching funds were available the City could be
executing additional projects to the tune of $500,000 to
$1,250,000. The failure to have these matching funds in the
budget is reflected in the LTIP currently out for public
comment (see other post from today).
I believe the LCBA should vigorously encourage the Council
to re-instate the $100,000 into the budget for project
matching purposes, and that we want it maintained in future
year's budgets. To that end I have prepared the attached
letter for your comments. Please post your comments (good
and bad) here in response to this post.
I intend to send the letter
to the Council on behalf of all LCBA members no later than
Friday, December 12th. To accomplish that I need your
comments posted here no later than Wednesday, December
10th.
Thank you for your participation.
