Is that Central Ferry at waypoint 55? I've done some of this I think. What is different is the route south and east of Pomeroy. Does that takes us across Alpowa?

Again, the problem with the route is the lack of small towns at which to refill water bottles and get something to eat. I don't think there are any services at Central Ferry either.

This looks very similar to a loop I used to do with Marc Schmidt and friends.

I agree. Nice ride but we never did the portion southeast of pomeroy.
You interested?

in looking closer out route in google earth I think at least some of
the southern part of the route is gravel. In terms of water and food
that is what hydro packs are for but I know you don't like those.
Just a thought...carry on with discussions on other routes :-)

The turn off at mile 1 turns to gravel and stays gravel for awhile. Peola road is under construction and closed.  Mark

Well we could eliminate the southeast portion.

It's time to make some decisions.
  • Bill, you were interested. Do you have a route to prop;ose?

Thx for the info Mark.......Corrie I would be interested in a longer
ride up to a century or even more on saturday. The washtucna ride
bill talks about sounds interesting and appears to have 3 resupply
points? Let me see if I can put a route together.

Guys,
This is the century Bill and I did a couple of years ago. We picked
a day when college students were returning to Pullman and route 26 was
in the midst of seal-coating. Bill really hated it.
What Bill is proposing is an out and back over that winding stretch
past Starbuck and Palouse Falls. That's actually a fun ride. We'd go
into Washtucna to get some lunch. Bill says Lyons Ferry is closed so the
only food stop would be Washtucna. He says he doesn't think there'd be
much Labor Day traffic on the route since Lyon's Ferry is closed.

Bill can only ride on Monday. I'm up for Bill's version which he
says is probably about 70 miles.

I think the Pomeroy route is probably 50 miles if we drop the
portion southeast of Pomeroy. That's a nice ride.
I timed at the TTrials last night. Couldn't believe the number of
big grain trucks running back and forth. So we have labor day traffic on
the main roads and grain truck traffic headed for the ports on the back
roads.

Still I'd like to do something on Saturday and ride with Bill on Monday.

Ok....well have fun.....I am going for 1000 miles this month. I will
probably get out for a pavement/gravel century somewhere on the fargo.

Have you guys thought about the temperature on Monday. Highs in the
upper 80s llow 90s. LaCrosse was closed up tight when Bill and I did
this ride. So no wate from Washtucna all the way back to the start point.

Doug, high on Saturday on the Palouse is forecast to be 78. Pomeroy
calls for 80.

Doug,

Your map shows the Nunamaker Road shortcut to Washtucna. Just wanted you to
know that it is gravel all the way. I think you will love the climb out of
Central Ferry, after reaching 100 miles. The last 6 are killer.

Are we doing the Washtucna ride Monday? I'm game. Let me know.

I'm not interested. I think it will be hot.
I usually take Mondays off but I could take Sunday off and meet you for local ride Monday morning.

I usually ride during the hottest part of the day. Oh well, maybe some other time.
