Accuweather says there'll be a chance of pm showers on Saturday but shows a high of 50 degrees. I'm going to risk the showers this weekend since the long range forecast makes the next weekend look cold and wet.

We did Lapwai Loop last week, a 47 mile ride which I turned into 60 by riding from home and adding a bit on at the end. I'm ready to push to 70 or 80--even a century though it would mean a cold start.

Considerations:
Highway 12 from Arrow back to the Casino was and likely continues to be un-rideable making for a scary little came of cat and mouse with the big trucks.
Still cold in the shadows making a trip toward Heller Bar less appealing.
A ride to Sage Bakery might find chilly temps on top.

1. My first inclination would be to ride out to Kendrick using the Lapwai Loop route we did last week. This would give others turn back options at MacIntosh, Lapwai, and Arrow. But there is the gravelly shoulder . . . .

2.  Another approach might be to combine serveral loops. For example we might Ride to 10 mile early while the sun is still on us, then back to Nisqually John, then climb Spiral Highway with an option to go on to Uniontwon if we think it is comfortable enough. Back at the Rose Garden we could climb Lindsay Creek or ride through Southway and around the full Lewiston Loop route.

Here's a map that shows this route at 85 miles stopping at Southway rather than going around Lewiston Loop.

Combining these routes has the advantage of staying close to town giving people the opportunity to bail out or join in.
My experience is that it is tough to predict just when the group will get to any given point so it is difficult to meet to join up, but with so many cell-phones around, we ought to be able to coordinate something.
This is just an example. We could skip going to 10mile and not lose that many miles. We could skip climbing the grade and  do Lewiston Loop instead.

3.  I'm open to suggestions but I'd like to post something by Wednesday.

I’m booked this Saturday. Do you still do the 1:00 pm start on Sunday?

That all seems pretty complicated.  Why not out and back to Buffalo Eddy, lunch, out and back to Wawawai Canyon.  Jim

Yep and I've put those Sunday rides on the calendar. It is early so bad weather may cancel any given Sunday. Generally we have had one or two riders all winter long save one or two bad days.

My reluctance to go to Buffalo Eddy is the sun is still so low that it will be shady and cold. Cold going out and cold coming back. Also it doesn't give any option for joining late. Still one can bailout by turning around.  But that's a suggestion. Let's see if we get anymore?

Okay, Jim's probably just trying to avoid having to climb the grade, but I'll give on the temp. Likely to be cloudy Saturday so being in the sun won't be that much of an advantage.

Here's the route Jim proposed. http://g.co/maps/z6xkz    This starts at Southway boat launch, goes South of Asotin to Buffalo Eddy, which should be very close to 20 miles.

If we start at 10, we'll be back at the Clarkston Corps by 12:40 or 1. We should have close to 40 miles at that point. This is all pretty flat. I would like to continue to Nisqually John after something to eat either at Taco Time or one of the places on Bridge like Subway.

The hard part will be heading out again after lunch.

There are no services between Asotin and Buffalo Eddy. It is smart to bring a snack bar or two to eat at Buffalo eddy. Dress for the weather. I don't think it is going to get warm enough to take off the wind breakers, but you could end up with cold fingers and toes.

As always, I'd like to know who plans to come so please register.  Don't be shy. If you don't show up, you don't show up. You can do the first leg or the second or both. Both are out and back routes so you can turn back if you don't feel up to it. If you are at all interested, register.

If you want to do the second leg only, send me your phone number and I'll call you when we get back to Asotin so you'll have time to get ready to join us at lunch.

If the pavement is wet at 9:45 Saturday, I’m staying home.

The weather has indeed taken a turn for the worse. I have to make my decision at 9:30.
