Here was a great post that Joe Holla posted in the Modx Revoulution

in the TC Modx Group too.

MODX Revo is PDO (PHP Data Objects) based. For that reason its faster
& much leaner code makes it more effcient than drupal, joomla,
wordpress etc. (meaning it can be made to run faster and use less
system resources.) Beef up your MODX Revo applications by learning to
use PDO here, free chapter based tutorial here...
