Two affiliated group meetings at the Hack Factory this week:

The Asterisk users group will be meeting in the classroom on Tuesday night; this is a departure from their usual Saturday schedule.  Asterisk is an open source VOIP switchboard setup that allows you to make and receive calls over the internet without resorting to something like Skype.

Thursday night, DC612 will have their monthly meeting in the classroom.  This month's topic will be different Linux-based penetration testing environments- bring a laptop!  Visit dc612.org for more information.

Of course, the weekly open-house will be on Wednesday night.  It's a business meeting week; so far, we only have one votable item on the agenda, which is whether to spend the $40 on a fiscal sponsorship deal with Springboard for the Arts.  Fiscal sponsorship would allow our donors to act as though we are a 501c3 organization without the huge paperwork headache and $850 application fee that the IRS normally puts groups through.  It would be a temporary solution until such time as we achieve independent 501c3 status; that will likely not be this year, however.

A reminder that Make: day at the Science Museum of Minnesota is coming on Father's Day, Sunday June 20.  TCMaker will be there in THREE locations- we'll have the spoon-a-pult out front, the life-size Operation game out back, and a table inside where we'll showcase the clothesline racers from last falls event.  If you're interested in putting a racer on display and can whip something up, that's great- let us know.

Finally, a note of an event of potential interest: a group of folks has put together a week-long "Nerd Party" in the space which used to be the Arise! bookstore on Lyndale in Minneapolis.  Looks like a lot of fun events, including a costume party which is, I believe, to be judged by Tron Guy himself!

Thanks for supporting the Twin Cities Maker and we'll see you at HacFac!
