Hello, Hackers-
It's been a few weeks since the last current events e-mail, but not for lack of events. We have a few coming, as well, that you may want to pencil into your calendar.
This Saturday will be a Handmade Music Minneapolis event from 5-10pm. If you didn't see it, Becky Stern at Make: gave the
HMMM folks a lovely shout-out today. This week's event stars Alex Deeba from
GetLoFi and
Michael Una, who will be leading a gizmo build.
Check it out!
We also have a couple of pending standing events that are in the planning stages. Stealing an idea from our bayside friends at
Noisebridge, we'll be starting a monthly tradition of "
Five Minutes of Fame" presentations. Structured similarly to Ignite, FMoF provides anyone with an opportunity to bend the ears of a group of people for five minutes. Talks can be on any topic but must be shorter than five minutes, start to stop. We'll make an announcement when dates are set for this.
From now on, the
third Wednesday meeting will have a brief structured period to provide members with a sounding board. We'll start this promptly at 7pm. If you have a complaint, an idea for a class or project, want to introduce yourself or hear introductions from everyone else, this is the meeting to hit.
Finally, the third Saturday of each month has been declared as
Electronics Day. There will be three aspects, guaranteed, to each month's event: a class, a swap meet, and a Q&A session. This month's class is
Soldering 101- a bring-your-own tools class where students will be provided with a scrap PCB and some cheap components to practice with. Once you're comfortable, we'll have some kits for sale so you can try your hand at kit building with help close by. The class is limited to 10 participants, so sign up now!
Don't forget the weekly get-together Wednesday night- lots of exciting projects going on there.
See you at the Hack Factory!
