I'm free on both those dates and I can see no council meetings that clash.

Hi both

Are you free on these dates? I can do either

Could one of you please check that they don’t clash with anything like a full council meeting so that the Councillors have an excuse not to come?

Council meetings are usually not on a Monday, so should be fine.

I’ll have to get a supply yoga teacher to teach for me that night.

Hi Anna

Sounds like an interesting subject! We'd be delighted to host you in Sheffield.

Our next available slot is on the evening of Feb 24th - would that suit you? If not March 24th would be the next date we have. Our speakers normally speak for 45 - 60 minutes then we have a Q&A after a short break if that's ok with you?

Could you send me a brief description of the talk, brief bio (or I can get that from your email below if you wish) and a photo so I can add the details to the site once we can find an agreeable date?

Regards

Dale

Dear Dale

Simon passed on your email to me to liaise directly with you.

I am National Campaign Manager for 20’s Plenty for Us and also a city of York Councillor.

Re the info on the talk – Its about how 20mph should be the new national default residential speed limit rather than 30mph

I’ll talk with powerpoint presentation for as long as you normally have and then answer questions.

I’m a regular attender at York Skeptics in the Pub, attended QED Manchester this year. I am booked by Leeds Sitp in January too.

I run a campaign with 210 branches that is winning changes in road speed limits so far for over 12 million people.

I will bust the myths on speeds

Such as

Speed Bumps

You can't put in 20 mph without physical traffic calming. That is both unpopular and expensive. No-one will want it. NOT CORRECT

Slower journeys

If you slow traffic down to 20 mph then it is obvious that journeys will take 50% longer. This will cause delays and is not acceptable. NOT CORRECT

Police won't enforce it.

The police will not enforce 20 mph. Therefore it will be ignored by motorists. NOT CORRECT

It increases Pollution

If you put in speed bumps and drivers accelerate between them, then this constant acceleration and braking does increase fuel usage. But where 20mph limits are put in place then this encourages steadier driving using less fuel with less pollution. It also encourages people to walk or cycle and therefore reducing their car-created pollution entirely. Hence it is NOT CORRECT that 20mph limits increase pollution.

All of these are myths which can be shown to be false. Click on the buttons on the left to see why  they are false and the argument against them.

Plus show people how to actively campaign

I’ll be  inviting all the Sheffield Councillors along.

Hi Simon

Apologies for the delay in responding. I'd be interested in this though it would be next year before we have a slot for the talk. Could you give me a bit more info & who the speaker would be and where they'd be coming from (I balance speakers from further away with ones which are near by so it's handy to know whether the speaker is fairly local or not) please? How long would the talk be?

Thanks

Dale

Hi, would you be interested in a talk on  "Why 20mph is the right residential road speed"  - 20's plenty for us can arrange a speaker for you if so. Get in touch with me for more info or have a look at http://www.20splentyforus.org.uk/  - or both! Simon
