have/say sth with/speak with one's tongue in one's cheek:


say sth that one does not intend to be taken seriously

cf:tongue-in-cheek (adv,adj):not serious

tongue-in-cheek remarks

cf:keep a civil tongue in one's head:not be rude

wx:I would like to make a friend with whom keep a civil

tounge in his head.

tongue-in-cheek -- adj. Meant or expressed ironically or facetiously.

ironic, also ironical -- adj. 1. Characterized by or constituting
irony. 2. Given to the use of irony. 3. Poignantly contrary to what was
expected or intended. --ironically adv. --ironicalness n.

irony n., pl. ironies. -- A literary style employing such contrasts for
humorous or rhetorical effect.
(This is the usual meaning of toung-in-cheek.)

facetious adj. -- Playfully jocular; humorous --facetiously adv.
--facetiousness n.
