西元前186年，Seleucid國王Antiochus IV，要出兵埃及。羅馬派出使者Gaius Popillius Laenas出面斡旋。在Antiochus IV面前沙地上一條線。並要求在跨過這條線之後就要承諾放棄進攻埃及。否則羅馬會出兵與之對戰。最後Antiochus IV放棄進軍埃及。Line in the sand 引申為設底線，否則超過會引來麻煩的意思。
Kernel CFS scheduler的maintainer Ingo Molnar用了這個嚴厲的字眼針對現在所有power aware scheduler的patches。他不滿意現在整體power management system的設計。認為現在所有developers提出的patches並沒有從subsystem設計的根本問題改進。因此，從此以後(line in the sand)，沒有改變根本問題的patches一律拒收。看來HMP scheduler要做power aware tuning短期內是沒望了。以後應該只能到Linaro去下載有支援power aware scheduler的kernel。
