Dear all,

Our next seminar will be Tuesday, May 5th, in Science Building III, Room SC427, from 14:20 to 15:20.

Speaker: Dimitrios Giataganas
Title: Black Hole Photon Rings Saturate the Quantum Chaos Bound
Abstract:
Since black holes are believed to be the fastest scramblers in nature, it is natural to ask whether this property is also encoded in the photon ring itself. We show that the quantum chaos bound is exactly saturated on equatorial circular orbits of the photon ring.  Then by mapping the instantaneous mass and angular momentum of two black holes in a quasi-circular binary to those of an effective Kerr black hole, we find that the merger remnant corresponds to the configuration that maximizes the photon ring Lyapunov exponent. Our result extends the known correspondence between black hole thermodynamics and chaotic dynamics, highlighting the role of the photon ring as a probe of the fundamental limits of thermalization and information scrambling in black holes.

See you all there.

Best,
Wayne
