Dear CORSIKA enthusiasts,
I'm happy to share that we have several openings for PhD positions related to CORSIKA8 in connection with the recent prolongation of our collaborative research center SFB 1941. One of the research areas is the improvement of hadronic interaction models
through new LHCb (and ATLAS) measurements of oxygen collisions, the tuning of event generators (in particular PYTHIA) to these data sets, and testing these models with air showers measured by the Pierre Auger Observatory and IceCube. As you can imagine, CORSIKA8
will be crucial to enable this research program. Another super interesting aspect will be the development of fast surrogate models for air shower simulations (using deep neural networks) to enable efficient tuning loops.
It would be great if you could forward this job ad to qualified persons.
You can apply until 16.6.2026, quoting Ref. No. w27-26, with a cover letter, resume, and a transcript of grades (please indicate grading system if not evident). Please provide the names and contact information of 2–3 people who can serve as references,
and indicate your earliest possible start date. Please send your application as a single PDF to
app.p...@tu-dortmund.de.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
Thanks a lot,
Christian
PS:
Also, our colleagues from Bochum and Wuppertal are looking for PhD students as part of the SFB. You can find their job ads here:
