Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to encourage you to nominate an outstanding candidate for the MIT Pappalardo Fellowship program for the period 2026-2029. Previous fellows have found that this program provided a significant opportunity for career development in a stimulating environment. In addition to paying a generous stipend and providing a scholarly allowance, this program actively mentors fellows and effectively promotes their interaction with the physics community.

The ideal level for an applicant is a fresh PhD or professionally young postdoc. A key criterion for selection is the ability to explain one’s research accomplishments and future plans to a broadly constituted interview committee in a clear, articulate, and mature manner, conveying both depth and intellectual excitement.

The nomination process is extremely simple - it requires completing a 1 page form on the web BEFORE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2025, with the name and contact information for the nominee, at:

https://physics.mit.edu/research/pappalardo-fellowships-in-physics/competition/

This deadline is strict; no late nominations can be accepted.

The nominee then has until midnight October 3rd to provide all the application materials. All recommendation letters are also due by this date. The nominee may choose their nomination sponsor as one of their letter writers.

Currently, we expect interviews for shortlisted nominees to be held in person at MIT, from Thursday, December 11 through Friday, December 12, 2025. Applicants should keep these dates open in their calendars.

More information is provided on the Pappalardo Fellowship web page:

Best Regards,
Daniel Harlow and Phiala Shanahan
