Talk title: A Decade of Progress and Future Prospects in Rare Kaon Decays

Time: 2026/05/25 (Mon.) 12:30

Place: NCTS Physics 4F Lecture Hall, Cosmology Hall, NTU

Abstract:
Rare kaon decays are among the cleanest probes of high-precision tests of the Standard Model (SM) and sensitivity to New Physics. This talk reviews the global kaon physics landscape over the past decade, including the recent milestone 5σ observation of the charged decay K+ → π+ν¯ν by the NA62 experiment at CERN. The KOTO experiment at J-PARC is focusing on the pursuit of its neutral counterpart, KL → π0ν¯ν, and has recently established a world-leading upper limit on the branching ratio at 2.2×10−9 (90% confidence level). To bridge the two-order-of-magnitude gap to the SM prediction, the KOTO-II experiment has been proposed. Utilizing an increased KL flux, a harder momentum spectrum, and an optimized detector layout, KOTO-II aims to test the SM or uncover clear signatures of New Physics. Now supported by an international collaboration of 87 members from 11 countries, KOTO-II targets deployment in the 2030s. This presentation will cover the current status of the field and the global strategy toward the next generation of kaon physics.
