I received this sad news over the weekend:

I'm sending this email to everyone in our late brother's contacts list who appears to be a personal contact. If it's not relevant to you, or if you already know about Ian's death and funeral arrangements, please accept my apologies for troubling you, and disregard it.

In the early hours of 2nd August, our beloved brother Ian Bowden unexpectedly passed away, in his sleep at home. His funeral will be held at Mortlake Crematorium on 14th September, at 2pm. It will also be streamed live, for those who are unable to attend.

If you would like to attend his funeral, or join us to raise a glass to his memory afterwards, please take a look at his memorial website where full details are available, and where you can let us know for planning purposes. You can also leave your own personal tribute on the website if you wish.

Ian's memorial website is at:
    https://richardfitzsimmons.uk/ian/

Please feel free to share this with any of Ian's friends who may not have heard.

With best wishes,
  Rosemary Lawson

I met Ian through TVRRUG. He was a founder member of the group and a Round 1 builder. He was a true gentleman and I found his support very helpful during the active years of building printers and then attending Maker Faires and other similar events.

I will be out of the country on 14 September and, therefore, not able to attend his funeral. I plan to leave a personal tribute on the website.

Regards,

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm, all

Thanks for letting us know.  Ian was a really nice chap, very insightful, very helpful and encouraging when I first met him when I joined TVRRUG for Round 2, and he was one of the experienced Round 1 hands.  Since then all my interactions with him have been positive, I’ve only caught a glimpse of the many facets and varied interests he had, but a common theme was of a natural community instigator – even when I fixed a 3D printer for Richmond Maker Labs, he was so meticulous in noticing and praising every aspect of the job I’d done, I think I needed that sort of validation more than money at the time.

As Malcolm said, a true gentleman.

Kind regards,

Alex Gibson

Thank you for posting this on to the group Malcolm.

Ian was a quiet but strong achiever with no fuss, and had such a positive influence with all his activities. I most recently think of him when Kew and hackspaces are mentioned. As it was mentioned that his passing was unexpected it must be a shock to his family, and so appreciated that they sought out his contacts.

I won't be able to attend in person, but will join the live stream, though I find remote viewing even sadder.

Kind Regs to all from here in Bedford.
Mike.
