Hi all
Making a long awaited upgrade board for the Thames Valley RepRaps, I’m hitting a sourcing issue which is infuriating as I was sure I sorted this before, but I lost a lot of research data.
I’m making an upgrade that plugs into a 40-pin ATMEGA644p DIP carrier socket. A lot like those old BBC Micro mod boards like below:
The good news is that I can find something close still, from RS Components – but it’s absurdly expensive for what it is and would need extra pieces of stiff wire to make into a standoff: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/0402692/
Does anyone know of a good source of extra-tall PCB header strips I could use to complete this? Or even, a complete standoff component if such a thing exists?
Cheers,
Alex Gibson

Alex,
Maybe you can do something with a 40-pin wirewrap DIL socket (https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/dil-sockets/1882774/)
The problem is likely to be that the legs, although long, are probably not a good size to plug into an existing DIP socket
