Hi everyone. From time to time I have a strange situation. I thought it had to do with not updating the latest series information and refreshing everything helped a lot. But from some series tv rename is convinced that I'm wrong haha.

Yesterday it would not want to recognize season 3 episodes of restoration australia. Although they were named correctly. Then I decided to chance the names to simply s03e01 and so on. Then it recognized them and changed the names to the full extend including the episode name. Great. No idea what was wrong with the old name, but now it's fine.

Today however, it's suggests moving the season 3 episodes to other seasons, while changing their names too. I am pretty happy with season 3 (TV Rename did this yesterday to what it already was by hand before). All files are under the series name, in a folder called season 03 and all the filenames are named s03exx. Why would TV Rename want to move s03e01 with the correct name in the correct place to season 01 and name it such? This is happening from time to time with one or two series out of a few hundred. But one time pressing Do Checked without looking and I might end up with a season changed both location and names. I have lost two complete seasons due to this a few weeks back, because they got renamed to a season that I already had. For some reason they got overwritten or something. I am on 3.3.1.

Any idea what I might be doing wrong here? Thanks in advance.

Alex

Try running the filename processors on the directory that those files are in. Share the screenshot as it may be able to help with this situation.

Options -> Filename Processors -> Browse to the folder with these files

Like this?

Strange thing when I look in the log file, it only shows that TVR is only looking in the right correspondent folders for missing files. Nothing wrong there. But still it shows me the suggestions afterwards to move stuff around.

In season 1 and 2 it doesn't show any files, since I don't have them. But then of course that is one of the reasons why I am using TVR to show me what I am missing. Since I am not planning on getting these seasons, I have put them on the ignore list for now which of course also solves the problem. But  I am still interested in why this is happening.

Few weeks ago for some reason TVR was running in offline mode. I might have accidentally clicked on that, not sure. But I did not notice until episodes could not be found, faults started to happen with renaming (due to changes on the tvdb not being transferred to my system), filenames with TBA in it for weeks and so on. Then the same kind of problems occurred too. I got newer files than my TVR knew about and it came up with suggestions for those files in completely different seasons. That is actually why I started to think that it had old data en then I found out about offline mode. I might have been using TVR for like two weeks or even longer or so in offline mode. Can this still have something to do with that? I have used the force refresh mode and did quite some manual refreshing to get things up to speed again.

Hmm - that's really strange. It shows that they are being correctly linked to Season 3.

Can you try doing a scan for just that show and sending the logs for that time please?

So I had everything in place to reply and then I once more checked every setting I could possibly find. Everything else was fine, the names, the episodes, the locations, the correct data from thetvdb... so it had to be some setting somewhere and then I found it: for some reason 'Use sequential number matching' was toggled on.

I had no idea this existed or even what it was, so no idea why that was toggled on. I do understand what it does now, but I don't see any logical reason for me to use that. I don't think I'll ever know why this was turned on with this series. Might be just a stupid thing like I was clicking on a window on top of that window once and made that a double click without realising... and so on. No idea.

Anywho, it made me realise that I have never paid for this software, but always planned to when things got better. I have had a rough few years in my live with more than a week left every month at the end of my monthly income, while hugely in debt. I'm in a much better position now, so finally I am able to buy that cup of coffee. Thanks for the great help. This time I found out myself, but the few occasions there were in the past that I was stuck, help was always quick and thorough. I am convinced this would also be the case if I didn't find it for myself now. Thanks!

No worries. Glad to have helped.

Thanks for sharing your personal story. Backs up why I keep the software to be available by donation only - that way people can pay what they can afford
