Future of TV Rename

It's been over 2 years, by my count, since you released version 5.08.  I'm perfectly happy with it, but others want more, as evidenced by the many entries on the Ideas for Features list and the Issue Tracker.  Do you have any plans to release any updates in the future?  If not, have you given any thought to passing on the developer job to someone else?  I'm not really familiar with all the GitHub rules of succession, but I guess anyone could pick up where you left off.  I know, from prior chats with you, that you feel that the program has reached the point that you envisioned for it and nothing more needs to be added.  It just seems a shame that such a unique program has been allowed to stagnate like it has.  No other TV/Movie program has the combined database and scheduling features like TV Rename. It should be at the top of the list of mandatory programs for video watchers and collectors.

Understand the sentiment.  While I too would love to see new features esp. the one difficult one I've asked for over the years to be able to grab direct download links from an RSS feed to make my process fully automated.  It's been so well put together that it still works amazingly well without much maintenance.  As long as I can manually get the new episodes into the monitored folder, TVR just takes it from there.  As I mentioned it would be nice for new features, but I'm happy if it just continues to work as my initial expectation was to find something that would rename and move my files to the correct location.  It does all this and more!

Agree!

I have a few pain points, but have learned to navigate around them.

* Multi episodes. It will still try to rename something like S01E01-02 and skipping the much needed 02 part. I have needed to remove series where I have this from the list of series it checks. I know you can manually override, but that feels wrong.

* Language support is still a bit sketchy at times. Movies that have a Swedish name, I sometimes miss when searching, so I have to search using TMDB and then paste the Id in as a workaround. 

* Matching has a tendency to find partial hits. Let's say there is a move called "war" and one called "war in the far east". Tryingto add the latter, I have seen that it take it as being the first.

I have no idea why, and I'm sure this would be a setting I could change in a setting file but the window where it has found a match, the columns are miniscule. Every time I have to expand them to see the name and the year. Here I would also like to see that I could double click the wanted option in the list for a quick add. That is the natural way, to do it for me.

But anyone can make a fork of the original and play with it. The license is Gnu so I guess anyone can continue on their form as long as it remains Gnu.

Yeah TVR was at a point that it all worked for most of us and any of the bigger things I'd like it to do were going to take ages. I'm not a programmer by trade, so everything was learned just to help TVR and it was taking up way too much of my time. 

Thanks to all of those who helped keep it alive during the last few years; Answering queries, updating the website; sharing hints and tricks. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Anyway there were enought bits recently that annoyed me to start to make some changes again. Security patches were needed; youtube trailers failed; everything felt slow; qBitTorrents stopped being removed.  So I'm going to work on 5.1. I'll make no commitments about how long it will take or what it will have in it, but at least there are some active changes planned.

In terms of what's going to be in 5.1. Priority will be in this order:

1. Stuff we have to do to get a new release - security updates, support for win 11, .net 10 etc

2. Stuff I want

3. Stuff that people who have helped the community  want (Tom, Steven - I'm looking at you!)

4.  Stuff that people who have donated want

5. Stuff that is preventing people from using it

6. Stuff that I think is fun to work on

It looks like 'the ideas wall' is offline, so we'll use https://github.com/TV-Rename/tvrename/issues to track requests / fixes et al

I've been super pleased with it over the years!  TV Rename is currently managing 593 TV series for me and it working very well.  I'm anticipating seeing great things...

I just wanted to drop you a line to tell you how overly excited about your return and the upgrades you have already worked on. Unfortunately, I'm a bit under the weather after 2 procedures dealing with gallstone removal and complications of my liver. I possibly will have my gallbladder removed shortly, too. Anyway, I haven't had the energy to participate in the testing of any of the updates or formulating any new ideas for TV Rename yet. Keep up the good work. Once I'm back on my feet, I'll be right in there with you.
