I've been trying to set this up so that i  don't have to manually rename subtitles. I can't get it to check my downloads folder for files to rename so i tried moving each subtitle file to the correct folder. It still doesn't find most of them. It found the subtitles that i downloaded that i didn't have the video files for but not some where i specifically clicked "scan show". This is an example of a filename it didn't identify: Atlanta - 02x11 - Crabs in a Barrel.SVA.English.C.orig.Addic7ed.com.srt. Sonarr renames the video files for me, and it's Atlanta.S02E11.Crabs in a Barrel.mkv in the same folder.

I've cleared my ignore list and changed folder settings to allow writing for the media folders, is there something else i could do? thanks!

Maybe do a full scan and make sure you have the "Do" marked as "All" under filed and folders. Make sure the .srt is setup in the "Other extensions" section.
If that is all setup, maybe someone with more knowledge of this system would be of more assistance.

thanks, both were as you suggested

I tried changing the video name to Atlanta.S02E11.eikoadgjldkja.odajkg and didn't get any results from the scan so I've probably broken something while trying to get this working...

This is very likely caused by the new option to keep the 2 or 3 character ISO-language code in the filename of the srt files.
At the moment this only works when the 2 or 3 language codes are directly before the file extension. {blablabla.eng.srt òr blablabla.en.srt)

I think your problem is caused by the way Addic7ed.com is naming its srt-files. I was also having recognizing and renaming problems with all addic7ed.com srt-files, but might have found a rather simple workaround . :-D

After TVR has renamed the addic7ed srt-files, do these srt files end with  .com.srt
When this is the case then TVR is interpreting the com as being a language code.

You might want to try if one of the workarounds I'm using right now, can solve you problem also.

Option 1: You are not using language codes in the name of srt files.
  1. In TV Rename go to:  OptionsPreferencesFiles and Folders
  2. Look for Retain Language Specific Subtitles and remove the check mark
Option 2: Use language codes, but prevent Addic7ed.com subtitles getting false ones.
  1. In TV Rename go to:  Options,  Preferences,  Files and Folders
  2. Look for Retain Language Specific Subtitles and mark the checkbox
  3. Look for Filename Replacements. You will see a small table with 2 buttons ADD and REMOVE. Click on ADD
  4. In the tabel scroll all the way down where you see your added empty row
  5. In its first column type .com.
  6. Go one column to the right (use Tab) and type . (that's 1 full stop) and press Enter
  7. At the bottom of the Preferences window Click OK

Hi Lina,

Please take a look at this thread. I think the advice will assist your situation. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/tvrename/0ayxEjT2AOg

TV Rename works by looking for missing shows. It doesn't search for missing subtitles.  If there is a sub file in the same location as the movie then it keeps them together and renames then together. If the subtitle is named differently to the video file or is not in the same location at the same time, TVR will not look at it.

Based on what you've said then a new feature to search for subs is what you are after. the best way to get that is to vote on the idea wall

Cheers

Sorry, I was out of town for the weekend. I think this could very possibly work, thanks! Unfortunately I seem to have messed up my other settings somehow and TV Rename doesn't find anything to rename anymore. The shows link to the correct folders but scanning doesn't flag filenames like elementary.601.hdtv-lol.mkv. I guess I'll go manual until someone makes a subtitle renaming program

Thanks also for the idea wall thing, it would certainly be appreciated. I saw someone else mention they downloaded this program since theRenamer recently stopped working but I don't know how many users there really are who would like this function.

I forgot to mention that my workaround only works AFTER you've put the subtitles in the right folder.
So I'm glad you managed to figure this out by yourself.

The most important thing is that it is also working for you now. :-D
