Sparky (Mark),

I think we are still having TVDB update problems.  I have two examples I've recently run into.

1) New York Homicide, Season 2. On my TVR I see 1 entry (S02E01) with a TBA for the name. On TVDB website there are 3 entries (S02E01 through S02E03) and they all have episode names. It has been that way for over a week.

2) On Patrol: Live, Season 1.  The listing on my TVR ends at S01E86. Last weekend it ended at S01E88. The last two disappeared somehow. I have the two video files in my library where TVR put them but S01E87 and S01E88 aren't in my list anymore. Weird! Also, TVDB has the listings on their website for up to S01E92 for over a week.

I've tried everything to try to pull down the update info from TVDB's API but nothing works. I've done Refresh, Force Refresh on both the Series and the Season.  I've done Force Refresh All, TVDB Accuracy Check and TVDB Update Checker and nothing will bring it down. This is not just a day or two, this is more than a week on both. I didn't want to post this on TVR's Github Issues because I don't think it is a TVR problem. Could you possibly load up those two shows and see what you come up with? I'm out of ideas.

Thank you.  I really didn't feel comfortable posting it to theTVDB's Github myself because I had trouble trying to figure out if it was still an open issue or not.  Plus, the language and procedures used there are a bit out of my knowledge level.  I'd feel very foolish if the issue I brought up there wasn't an issue.  I feel better that you confirmed that it is an actual problem.

Definately having trouble here as well, haven't managed a download from tvdb since having "upgraded" to version 4.99...

I'm not having any trouble with 4.99, per se.  This is a TVDB problem.  The new data for certain shows are on the TVDB website but they are not being transferred over to their API, where TVRename can grab it.  As you can see from above, an issue report has been sent in to TVDB about it.  It's been assigned to an individual to investigate and that's where we stand now.

Good to see you back Andy

Try a 'Force Resresh All' - should bring TVDB back in line and downloads should be back to normal after that

I guess you're talking about a different issue with Andy, right?  The one where if you haven't used the program in awhile you need to do a 'Force Refresh All'.  For my issue that started this thread I've done a 'Force Refresh All' more times than I can remember with zero results.

Yeah - potentially 2 related  issues here

1. Data dowloading into TVR OK, but out of date compared with website: TVDB issue - see link above
2. Data not downloading into TVR OK. Keep an eye on the logs to see what its doing and/or a 'Force Refresh all'. (to try and address issue 1, TVDB are fluching many mnay updated to the 'changes' pat of their API which is swamping TVR)

It appears that TVDB has fixed the problem with the two shows I initially posted about.  API seems to match website for those two and I was able to update the data into TVRename.  I don't know if they have fixed the problem in general.  I haven't been over to Github yet to read any comments in the Issues section.

It seems they fixed it for some shows but not in general.

You may want to be more specific as to what shows you are still having problems with.  I, personally, haven't seen any problems with my other shows but that doesn't mean it is not happening.  I'll be glad to test whatever show you are having problems with.  If confirmed, maybe, another TVDB Issue report might be needed.

There is already a ticket
And they made another fix. So hopefully that solves the problem.

I thought you were writing about the issue I was having.  This is a totally different issue that, I guess (reading it quickly), has something to do with translations.  I'm glad to read that your problem has been corrected.

Mark,
There may still be a TVDB problem with On Patrol: Live similar to what I reported in the first message of this thread.  Too early to file an Issue there.  I'll keep an eye on it.  Just thought you should know.
The other show listed in the first message, New York Homicide, is still working fine now that they fixed it.

Seems the these two shows suffer the same issue of not updating episode names, I'm not a github savvy user either.

The Ashley Madison Affair - Season 01

My Adventures with Superman - Season 01

Roger,
You might be on to something.
With the Ashley Madison show the names for all 3 episodes last changed on July 7th and that was more than a week ago.  It's interesting to me that the names showing up in TVR all begin with #.  All the episodes of On Patrol: Live begin with a #.  Coincidence?  Who knows?
The Superman show is very interesting, too.  There are 10 episodes total with 2 episodes that are two-parters.  I wouldn't worry about episodes #3 and 10 as they were just updated this morning (July 15th).  Episode 3 has already changed in TVR but #10 hasn't yet as of this writing.  Episodes 4 through 7 are all updated correctly in TVR. The 2 two-parters (episodes 1 & 2 and 8 & 9) were last changed on July 13 and should be changed in TVR by now since Episode 3 has already from this morning but they aren't.  The episodes of the updated two-parters both end with a parentheses, number, parentheses. In other words, (1) for the first part and (2) for the second part.  Could the parentheses be messing up the change?  Who knows?
Keep an eye on it and maybe we could come up with enough info to write an Issue at TVDB v4's Github.

Mark,
I know of four TV Shows that have been updated on the TVDB Website that are not appearing in the API, just like the last time I reported it and it became TVDB Github Issue #299.  The shows are:
The Ashley Madison Affair     (thanks to Roger D)
My Adventures with Superman       (thanks to Roger D)
World on Fire
On Patrol: Live   (was fixed temporarily in Issue #299 but is bad again)

For On Patrol: Live I was the person (I am "tvdb87k" on TVDB) that entered or did the final modification (including name and description of episode in English) for episodes 75 through 96 so I am very aware that the information was input some time ago and should have made it to the API by now.
Since you closed Issue #299 do you reopen it or do you or I have to start a new Issue?  Again, I'm still not sure of Github rules or etiquette.

Mark,
Someone else must be having problem, too.  This was just added to the closed #299 Issue on the TVDB-4 Github.

Do they get to see it if it is closed?

They fixed the problem.  Roger, if it doesn't look like it is fixed yet, you'll have to do a Force Refresh All (under the Tools menu option) and when it is done you'll have everything listed right.

Mark, thanks once more for your help.  I think next time if I have to raise an Issue with TVDB I'll be able to do it on my own.  One question though - They wanted you to tell them what endpoints you used.  I didn't know what that meant but they managed to figure it out on their own and find the problem.  So, in a brief laymen explanation could you tell me what they wanted? And why it would matter?  Thanks!

Tom, I noticed that earlier today, but thank you for the heads up.

Mark, As always thank you.

Yes I have found TV Rename broken for a bit now and unfortunately when I do the Force Refresh All it doesn't update the tv shows. Instead the metadata all goes blank. I have a feeling it is do to my quantity of the number of shows I have. About 50. If I do one-at-a-time, it works. But that would be quite a journey.

themusj,
Do your Options look like this?
Screenshot 2023-07-23 12.33.44 AM.png
The important thing is having no checkmark next to Offline Operation and that bluish icon (not white) next to Automatic Background Download.
Down the bottom of the page, in the center, you'll see Background download: idle.  After you click on Force Refresh All this will rapidly change to a whole lot of different things.  Wait until it goes back to Background download: idle and all your shows will be updated.
I don't think 50 shows is going to be your problem.  I have 326 TVDB & 4 TMDB shows and 182 TMDB Movies.

Thank you for your help! My Options look like your screen shot. BUT, my screen bottom only has Next Airing: - - - at the bottom. No background idle message. When I click Force Refresh, nothing happens at the bottom either. Just all the data for each TV show goes away. I am running 5.06.No Idle.JPG

Are you sure you have a bluish icon next to the Automatic Background Download?  If it is an icon with no blue around it as below then that is off.  You want it on.  At least that is how it works for me.
Screenshot 2023-07-23 11.09.32 AM.png
The only other possibility is that the icon is just a toggle and the icon color means nothing.  If you don't have Background download: idle showing in the the bottom center, click the icon no matter what color it is.  Does it appear?  If so, then you should be able to do a Force Refresh All then and all your shows should appear.
I sure hope I'm not missing or forgetting something.  I'd feel a lot better if the author,  Sparky53, piped in about this.  I've always felt confused about the icon and I wrote him so in another message here on the Forum.

I see! Didn't catch that border around the icon. So Sorry I missed that. It is working now!
