Hi,

After each TV Rename startup, whenever I want to scan a show, TV Rename (latest version) displays the following dialog boxes (see attached picture).

This scan takes a time that's proportional to the number of days where I haven't opened TV Rename. And it can quickly become unbearable. E.g. for a week or so, the scan may take 10-20 min. And during that time I just can't use the app. Imagine if I didn't open it for 3 months!

This didn't happen before, but it has been happening for at least 6 months now, and it's really upsetting.

Before you ask, I already tried a Force Refresh All, which didn't change anything.

Here's the log in case you want to see for yourselves.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Mine takes about 20-30 secs. or so for about 70 TV shows, but I do open it daily.  It definitely does take longer if not opening it for a while.  TheTVDB  API has been slow at times but eventually recovers.  Sounds like you've been having issues for a while though.  Maybe backup your settings files and do a trial of like 10 TV Shows to see how it performs.

I have well over 500 TV shows and mine never takes more than a minute or so to update.  I leave it open all the time.

Ideally, TVRename should be running constantly, 24/7.  I see you are running TVDB.  Which version of the API are you running?  It should be version v4.  The TVDB section of Preferences > Data Sources should look like this:

And, yes, the first thing you should do if you have not run TVRename in a while is to do a Force Refresh All or a (Beta) TVDB Accuracy Check or both.

It does look like that indeed. I have the latest version with default settings, so...

As for the rest, why would I need TVRename to run 24/7? I only use for one single thing: renaming all the episodes of my TV shows. So I only need it whenever I add episodes to a TV show, that's all.
I don't need an app to run 24/7 for that, sorry. As its name suggests, TVRename is, primarily, a renamer. That's what I use it for, period.

Let me be clear about this: having to wait 20min, 30min or more just because TVRename wants to update all the episodes in its database, when all I want to do is check ONE SINGLE TV SHOW for new episodes, is completely and absolutely ridiculous.
There's just no excuse for that. Either it's a bug, or it's poor development. Users should have the option to choose whether all shows should be updated EVERY SINGLE TIME, or just the ONE show they're interested in.

The problem is that you think the program is just a renamer because the program may have started off as only that.  TVRenamer is also about movies, but the name is not going to tell you that, either.  TVRenamer is much more than a TV show renamer now.  There are literally dozens of programs that will simply rename a TV show filename, like you are looking for.  Perhaps you should look elsewhere for that simple task.  TVRenamer is a media database that tracks scheduling of shows and movies and their metadata, such as actors, crew, and plot.  TVRename tracks TV show episodes and movies that you are missing.  It has the capabilities to search for files that exist on torrent sites or newsgroups.  I could go on and on telling its features, but if you have no reason to use them, then you won't understand why TVRename is best run 24/7.

By the way, 2% is different from 20%, and so your database will be updated less often, and will result in a longer wait time.
