I recently got Tv Rename and have been trying to use it but it keeps saying "missing files" and lists the season / episode count.
The only way to use it is to drag each episode manually from explorer onto the names in the software and then it will rename the files.
I have selected the correct directory and allowed it to create its own folders such as "Season 01" and "Specials".
Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?

Have you setup options -> Preferences ->  Search Folders?

This is the location that the software looks for missing files

It is set to the correct folder in the settings. I have to manually drag the vid files into the names in the app to rename it.

Sparky asked you about Search Folders, not Library folders.

Its still the same even if I set the folder.
The first pic is the folder and the auto "season 1, 2,3" that the software makes when scanning and the 2nd pic is what the software says when I finish scanning, as you can see it doesnt read the files and I need to drag each file into the corresponding names for the software to read it.

You may be setting up library folders but you haven't set up your Search folders which is clearly shown in lol.png.  Search folders are where your files wind up and are discovered by TV Rename which is monitoring that folder or those folders.  All the action begins when TV Rename finds a file in one of the Search folders.
Attached is my Search Folder Preferences.  I use 2 Search folders.  One handles torrent files that I have processed.  The other handles video that was recorded by WMC and then processed.  I use scripts to automate the processing with the last step being the move of the processed file to one of the Search folders so that TV Rename can do it's thing.

I would suggest that you also do the checkmarks the same as mine.

Hey thanks for the reply, so I set mine to yours exactly (posted pic) but it still the same.
I have set it to read the correct name from the search (attack on titan saved) and its set to the correct directory (attack on titan location)
I think at this point I should just forget about it or do it manually and hope I dont mess dragging a few hundred episodes into this app :(

Here is another example with a different anime, it scans, makes the season 1 folder, can read the location (set correctly) but still wont auto tick it, need to manually drag each epi in :(

You don't set your Search folder to be the same folder as your Library folder.  It is an entirely different folder.  Think of it as having nothing to do with your show.  It is only there to see what is put in it.  Once a file is put into the folder then it starts the process of seeing what it has to do with the file.  To make things easier, make up and name it D:\searchf.  That's where you put the file you want renamed and moved to your Library folder.

One last thing that a lot of people miss is the individual show settings in the Advanced section of the Add/Edit for the show.
Here is mine and I recommend that yours be similar.  The important ones being Do renaming and Do missing check.

Tom's advice is good stuff. The search folders are normally for unsorted files that need to be moved into your library.

Two options I would highlight that may help:
 - options -> Preferences -> 'Move files within Library to Keep it Tidy'  (this will use the library folder for a show as a pseudo search folder for that show only)
 - You have your seasons folder format (options -> preferences -> Library folder) set to "Season {Season:2}", but from your example it looks like your referred format is 'Season {Season}'. This can be set at the library-level or for individual shows
     - This will determin whether the season folders have a leading 0 on the names: "{Season:2}" means pad the season number to 2 digits.

Hope that helps

Okay, so I made a new folder and changed the settings you both suggested. (In this situation im using the anime "My Hero Academia" )
So I set my search (Preferences > Search folder ) to D:\Quick Access\Videos\Anime\My Hero Academia (This is where the rando named episodes are)
Then I set the library folder when I add series in the "Folders" option in add to  D:\Quick Access\Videos\Anime fixed names \ My Hero Academia (And I made a folder for the selected TV show id like to rename)
And when I scan, I get the same result, the epis are named there, and it doesnt say "missing" but none of them are ticked.
I have included screens of all the pages incase I missed something.
Again, thanks for the replies and the suggestion.

Under "My hero add show Advanced.png" uncheck "Look for episode title in filename"

also can share how is your "original filenames" are?

So to understand the contexts.

1) Your "unnamed" files are stored in "D:\Quick Access\Videos\Anime\My Hero Academia"
2) You want to move the "renamed" files to D:\Quick Access\Videos\Anime Fixed Names\My Hero Academia, right?

Normally for search folder I'd recommend to use a main folder "D:\Quick Access\Videos\Anime\" assuming that all the "random name" animes folder\files are stored there.  (ie)
1) D:\Quick Access\Videos\Anime\My Hero Academia
2) D:\Quick Access\Videos\Anime\Fairy Tail
3) D:\Quick Access\Videos\Anime\ Attack of titans

Hey, Yes that is the situation.
I have tried with "Look for episode title in filename" ticked and unticked, both provide the same outcome

As for the "original filenames", each anime is different. In this situation for "My hero academia" it is "My Hero Academia S1 - 01 [720p]" for episode 1 of season 1 but I have tried it with several other anime that have names such as "[AC] Gintama - 50 [720p][BD][Lucifer22]" for Gintama.
Also, with Gintama I have season 1 to 7 and the software worked (partially) and renamed season 1 correctly, but left the others (gintama season 1 and gintama season 2.png)

I did set the search folder to "D:\Quick Access\Videos\Anime\" initially but then a pop up box would come for every episode asking me to add the TVDB code for the series / anime (tvdb code prompt.png) so I found it easier to set it to the specific anime I wanted to rename each time and do it one at a time.

Let me explain how im doing it step by step with.
1) I open TVRename
2) I go to preferences and set the search folder to "D:\Quick Access\Videos\Anime\My Hero Academia"
3) Then I hit "Add" and search for my hero academia
4) Set the base folder and the advanced settings (default and with file name title ticked and unticked" )
5) Go to Scan and hit "Full Scan"
6) It now prompts me to make the folders for "specials" and "season 01" etc
7) I get the epi names but none of them are ticked.

Hmm base on your screenshot for Gintama Season 2.. The file name doesn't have details on "Season" & "Episode". Yes while it does says Episode 50 but in order for TVRename to work the file name needs those information.

[Refer to attached image] shows that the "filename" that you have "highlighted in red", it is unable to determine what season & episode the file is. But the other 3 in regardless of format, it is still able to pick up. I think you might need to add a new filename processors to manage the format that you have in place for it to recognize where to find the Season & Episode

Hello, So I fixed the issue, I found a program called "Advanced Renamer" and I name the series as "S01E01" and so on and then let TVrenamer have a go at it and it worked!
