Subtitles not working as supposed to?

Subtitle files are not and never have worked for me in the way that I've read in other posts here. I have set my preferences as below but only the video files are discovered and moved/renamed. (Subtitle files and video files are downloaded to the same Search Folder.)
Preferences -> Files and Folders - Video Files

In order to have my subtitle (.srt) files found, renamed and moved I have to change the Video Extension field to only contain ".srt"
Preferences -> Files and Folders - Subtitles

You can see how different shows are missing in the two screen shots above. Now having said this, I get my videos from one source and my subtitles from another. I'd think it would be less clear if the missing files were combined on one page. How do others handle this?

Thanks,
Marc

Hi Marc,

Quick question: Do your subtitle files have exactly the same filename as the corresponding movie file? (except for the extension)

TV Rename looks for missing video files and then (and only if the filenames are identical)  also copies across any subtitle files. It does not look for missing subtitle files per se. It only copies subtitle files as a by product of moving the main movie file. I assume from what you are saying that you want TV rename to look for missing subtitle files too?

Cheers

Hi Sparky,

Sorry to take so long to reply. You are correct, the videos and the subtitles come from different sources. Hence their names are not the same. What I've been doing is a scan with the regular (.avi, .mp4, etc) video extensions listed, rename any found, then do another scan with .srt as the video extension.

I didn't know that it was possible to acquire video and subtitle files with exactly the same name.

I did notice that if I add .srt to the end of the regular video extensions then nothing is found and it doesn't find anything and it doesn't list all missing files.

So I guess I'll have to continue the way I've been doing this, with a macro that changes between searching foe video files and searching for subtitle files separately. (This is why, previously, I asked to have keyboard commands re-instated and unique - my macro uses these).

Hi,

There could be a 'find missing subtitles' mode that identified and copies subtitle files as it scans through the main library. Features as I see them:
 * List of subititle extensions
 * Overall flag on or off
 * Flag on or off per show
 * Capabilty to deal with language variations
 * Ability to set which language subs you are after
 * Setup, maintain and link to certain subtitle provider sites (akin to the search providers now)

It could all be done, but it's a fair amount of work. Maybe suggest it on the ideas wall and see if the community votes for it:

Thanks
