With the usual disclaimer about tickets not guaranteeing entry, I have a confirmed ticket for next Tuesday's (3/3) Colbert taping.  I've been before, back in November 2022.  My DVR says the guests will be Jake Gyllenhaal and Maria Bamford.

I'm waitlisted for other tapings next week (Colbert and Meyers), but I'm not holding my breath.

Besides looking for any signs encouraging booing, is there anything else to watch for?

Best,
David

Be prepared for anything.  Elements that might not air for weeks, or ever, can be produced on any given night. And you likely also know about how cold the room is, much like with Letterman, and that segments could be specific to the website/Youtube (e.g. Talarico).

Thanks.  When I went in 2022, one interview in that night's show was taped earlier in the week, and the musical guest's performance didn't air until later that month.  If anything, that pattern seems more common lately than ever before.

As for the temperature, it should actually be warmer inside the Ed than outside if the weather forecasts are accurate.  I will be layering.

When I went to Colbert in September 2023 we got a full show, plus a musical performance by Sting for a future episode.

The warm up guy, Paul Mercurio (sp?) was pretty good and also has a podcast.

Once you are seated, they bring you to the bathroom in groups prior to the show starting.   Take advantage of that.

Thanks.

Mercurio was the warm-up when I saw Colbert last time.  I *think* he's been doing warmup for Colbert since the Report.  And I will *definitely* take advantage of any restroom breaks.

I've now been confirmed for a ticket for the Late Night taping on Thursday, March 5.  I haven't been, but based on the information from the ticket, it seems to be a shorter process from check-in to end of taping compared to Colbert.  I guess the smaller studio has something to do with that.

FWIW, I'm going to NYC mainly to see the show "All In" at the Nederlander Theater, and if the timing works out, some concerts at Birdland.  It just seems silly not to take a shot at talk show tapings, especially with Colbert ending soon.  And with the weather staying close to freezing while I'm there, I'll bounce from indoor attraction to indoor attraction.

Hope you have a great trip.

I bought an Amtrak pass about a month ago when they were on sale, so now I'm trying to figure out if I can fit in at least one trip to NYC for a talk show or two.

I just like being in that theater with all the history that it has. If the guest is a two-segment interview he will record the throw to commercial and return afterwards so as not to interrupt the flow of the conversation.

If you’re in the balcony check out the stained glass over the stage.

Thanks.  Last time I was sitting in the lower level, band side, so I really couldn't see all of the interesting stuff at the Ed.

I've been moved from General to Priority for Tuesday's taping, maybe that will mean something more than a longer wait outside.

Hi,

I ended up sitting in the lower level, desk side, right in front of the end of the steps up to the stage.  On that side, you run the risk of the cameras blocking you depending on the shot they want.  On the band side, it's mostly the boom to contend with.  But I was close enough to the stage so I could see more of the decorations over the stage (but not the ceiling).

I arrived at 2:15, and the Priority line was already around the corner.  I suppose if I'd gotten there earlier I could have ended upstairs, but it was raining most of the day and I got pretty wet as it was.

They did re-record a monologue joke (timing miscue) during the first commercial break.  Having watched the video, the edit was really good.

Jake and Stephen had a lot of fun.  It went off the rails a bit around where they ended up putting the (post-taped) toss to commercial.  They got into an argument after confusion between the Skarsgards and the Sarsgaards.

They taped what appears to be tomorrow night's musical segment tonight.  It should get some attention.

Best,
David
