The Washington Post and others are reporting that the actress passed away yesterday, aged 89.  No cause has been given as yet.  She suffered a stroke in 2015.  If memory serves, she most recently prompted discussion here in the larger context of the conservatorship discussions that Ms. Spears prompted.


Having seen her a few times I will note her charm and grace.  I saw her one-woman show probably 25 years ago and it exceeded my admittedly high expectations.

From everything I read about her, she was a lovely and charming woman. May she rest in peace.

As has often been noted, her influence on the culture was profound, far exceeding the short lived television program she had a supporting role on.  I don’t think it is possible for people who were not alive in the 1960s to fully appreciate what it meant to see her on that Bridge.

Tough weekend for cultural icons…

Last time I was as at Comic-Con in San Diego, she was scheduled for autograph signings. I looked to see nobody at her table and chair, including Ms. Nichols and began to worry. I was about to inquire as to her whereabouts, when she (leading her entourage) blew past me and took her place. Within seconds the autograph area was deluged with fans, as it should be.

Some of her remains will be jettisoned from a rocket into deep space, along with bits of ashes from James Doohan and the Roddenberrys.
