Normally I wouldn’t bother to comment on this because the stakes and influence of network TV news are cratering and the amount of damage Weiss can do to society is minimal. Then I read this article in The Verge and I have to share. It’s in the form of a letter to Bari Weiss. Money quotes:
You have elected to take a job where the primary purpose is for you to eat shit and own the death of broadcast TV news, a thing that is going to die no matter what you do. Nice work!
You are now stuck claiming your goal is to win back younger audiences, which you cannot do, while your real job is to manage decline. There is no way to win here, only slightly better ways to lose.
After months of speculation, Paramount Skydance has bought the Free Press, Bari Weiss' rightwing Substack site the Free Press, which maybe made $14M last year, for $150M in cash and stock and made Weiss the new editor-in-chief of CBS News, which has for the last few years also includes the news shops at the owned stations (including KCBS on channel 2 in LA's newscasts branded as sister station "KCAL News" on channel 9, which is about like Fox branding KCOP in LA on channel 13 as "Fox 11+" [that would be KTTV])--needless to say, the worst feelings of CBS News staff have been verified as Murrow and Cronkite do the whip and the nay-nay in their graves:
