Anthony Rapp, who plays an engineer on Discovery, accused Spacey of pulling a Weinstein a few decades ago. Spacey has apologized and outed himself in a Tweet.

And the next season of House of Cards has been shelved “for at least a year” by Netflix.

I think the admission of attempting to have sex with an underage boy (Rapp was 14 at the time of the incident) is what has put an abrupt halt to Spacey’s career. That he attempted to out himself as a distraction has pissed off the LGBTQ community.

From reading, it sounds as though House of Cards is actually currently in production, and what Netflix is saying is that the 2018 season will be the final one. I'm not sure they're actually delaying it however. The fifth season was released at the end of May this year, and so I wouldn't expect to see it before May 2018 anyway.

I don't think Spacey did himself any favours in his combined "I don't remember" apology alongside coming out which is not really relevant. But we'll have to wait and see what Netflix does in the medium term.

I also am pissed off at Spacey for trying to distract from these charges by Comming Out (as noted, his status is so well known already it does not really qualify as even a poorly kept secret).

Spacey and I are similar in age; I may not remember every person I ever propositioned when I was 26 and drunk (though I probably do - I do not get drunk much, and did not sexually proposition too many people before getting married the next year). I am absolutely positive I would have remembered if I had tried to have sex with a 14 year old when in my mid twenties. The relevant thing we learned about Spacey’s sexuality is that he is a pedophile, not that he is gay or bisexual.

Still, I do find some truth in the attached tweet:

To be fair to KS, probably more accurate to say we learned he is a “hebephile” - or, more conservatively yet, had hebephillic tendencies. I will leave to the reader to decide if they see a moral distinction (I probably do, but a small one).

Once again, Seth MacFarlane is at the nexus of celebrity assault allegations. This time, Stewie claimed he escaped from Kevin Spacey’s basement in 2005.

Similar story in the LAT below, but I post here because one paragraph raises an interesting possibility. It notes that because Spacey was credited as an executive producer on HOC, Netflix potentially faces a higher level of legal responsibility for any harassing behavior he may have engaged in with anyone in cast or crew. I wonder if this fact will reduce the practice of giving stars of shows the EP credit, which I have always assumed was mostly a vanity credit, but I think also legitiamates the star seeking input with writers on plot lines and dialogue?  Why would the owners of a show take on the extra risk, in an age where, it is to be hoped, we are moving towards no longer casually and silently tolerating sexual assault and harassment in the workplace.

If we are moving to that new age, much of the credit will have to go to the Trumpsters. In the immediate aftermath of the HW accusations, the Right Wing Machine flooded social media with posts asking if liberals would be critical of HW, since he was “one of them”, or even just assuming that they would not. This was so odd, in part because,  at least in the portion of my friend group that extends into the liberal entertainment community, while they do not seem to have known that HW was a rapist, most always thought of him as an asshole. I think there were a ton of folks in Hollywood who were happy to twist the knife as soon as it seemed safe to do so.

But in any case, because of the masssive conservative voice demanding that HW be punished for his sexual harassment, and the just massive eagerness by the liberal community to do so, there has been almost no pushback at this point, unlike similar points with people like Donald Trump, Bill Cosby or even Bill Clinton*. The next famous clergyman or corporate executive or politician who has a critical mass of allegations (which may have dropped to 1) will have little or no cover.

*There are important differences between the case of Clinton and the other men mentioned here, but for the current point he is just as relevant.

All good points. I’ve tried and failed a couple times to discuss all of this on social media. Ultimately all I can contribute (without getting my ass handed to me by women) is my own experience in the industry in the 1990s, where sexual harassment was even more common. I could also attempt to draw a correlation between the open drug use of the era, not as any form of defense or explanation, but just to add some detail to those times. It was the tail end (no puns or innuendo intended) of the “anything goes” era. And while obviously the behavior continued beyond my time in the studios, I suspect the days when one finds a mountain of coccaine in the break room are done, as are the days when a Hollywood producer would grab a female employee and pull her onto his lap, forcing her to give him a lap dance in full view of the entire crew.

Whomever would be in office now, the credit for changing the permissive culture goes to social media. Apologies to the gasbag Jon Ronson, but public shaming is proving very effective.

When I said this elsewhere on social media, I was accused of victim-blaming, which is not my intent, but an environment where victims say #metoo but don’t feel safe/comfortable naming names is problematic.

Bad news keep coming for Kevin Spacey. [CBS Boston]

The thing that surprises me about these cases is not that after a victim steps forward, more decide to, it's that there are so many over the years.

Much like the assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky at Penn State U. a few years ago... the case began in 2008, but people victimized as far back as the mid-90s came forward.

Wow, the film is supposed to hit theaters in a month and they're reshooting Kevin Spacey's parts with Christopher Plummer.

Christopher Plummer to replace Kevin Spacey in Getty film

By LINDSEY BAHR and JAKE COYLE
AP Film Writers
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kevin Spacey is getting cut out of Ridley Scott's finished film "All the Money in the World" and replaced by Christopher Plummer just over one month before it's supposed to hit theaters.
People close to the production who were not authorized to speak publicly say Plummer is commencing reshoots immediately in the role of J. Paul Getty. According to the report, all of Spacey scenes will be reshot. Co-stars Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams are expected to participate.
Scott is intending to keep the film's Dec. 22 release date.
The film was originally set to have its world premiere at the AFI Fest in Los Angeles on Nov. 16 but was pulled earlier this week amid the sexual harassment reports surrounding Spacey.
Spacey has also been fired from "House of Cards."

Sandusky follows the template and I think his scandal is part of this current wave. The wave began with the Catholic Church sex assault scandals. That set the template:

1. A claim by a victim, or in the case of Bill Cosby, someone claims his predator status as a fact.
2. Denial by the accused or his publicist.
3. Peers of the accused stand by and hope it all goes away.
4. More victims go public.
5. Journalists report that the behavior has been rumored for years. They couldn't print/air the rumors because nobody would confirm them and many victims settled their claims out of court and signed agreements to stay quiet.
6. The accused becomes a pariah as the victims tell their stories.

The trailer was already being shown in theaters with Spacey.  I assume that Sony's trying to swap every DCP package of the trailer that theaters are already showing.

Well, we have discussed the rumors about him here for a long time. As I understand it, other comics who appear on the same bill as him now generally refuse to be backstage with him before, during, or after showtime.

Oh yeah, there have been Charlie Sheen rumors too, but again there are always Charlie Sheen rumors.

TMZ is already reporting he won't be charged in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles prosecutors review Kevin Spacey sex assault case

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles County prosecutors say they are reviewing a sexual assault case against Kevin Spacey.
District Attorney's office spokesman Greg Risling said Wednesday that sheriff's investigators presented the allegations to prosecutors on April 5. No additional details were provided.
British media have reported that the 58-year-old actor is also under police investigation for sexual assault in London.
The Academy Award winner was first publicly accused of sexual misconduct in October. He quickly lost roles in the film "All the Money in the World" and the TV show "House of Cards," and future projects were shelved.
Spacey apologized to his first public accuser, actor Anthony Rapp, and his representatives have said he was seeking unspecified treatment.
Spacey's attorney Todd Rubenstein did not immediately return an email seeking comment Wednesday.

Spacey's latest film, "Billionaires Boys Club," earns $126 the first day in limited release in 10  theaters.
No, that's not missing a comma. That's $12.60 a theater.

I assume that's the minimum amount the studio has to do to fulfill contracts and be eligible to take a tax write off. And it's obvious they spent no money at all on marketing.

Spacey got his first role sine the fallout. He's filming in Italy.
