I went to the Thursday taping for Late Night at 30 Rock, the show aired that evening, and you could kind of see me in the audience a couple of times (right side, about 2/3 up).  It rained off and on that day, so indoor waiting was a welcome relief.

Check-in time was moved up from 2 to 1:30.  This might have had something to do with Fallon being on Colbert's show Thursday and schedules had to be rearranged.  It was pretty straightforward - wait in line for security, wait in the Peacock Lounge for load-in, wind your way to the elevators up to the 9th floor before seating.  I was impressed with the operation, since they were handling 3 shows, with Kelly Clarkson's show loading the audience shortly before Late Night and The Tonight Show loading shortly after.

Once in the studio the general format wasn't that different from the other shows I've been too.  There wasn't anything pre-taped for that night, nor did they tape anything for a future show (like they did at Colbert on Tuesday).  The whole taping ran around an hour, with one slightly longer break to set up a comedy segment.  Meyers came out for that break and took a few questions.

I don't know how it compares to the Fallon Tonight Show set, but the Late Night set seemed comparable in size to either studio SCG was in for his Late Late Show.

That night they did "A Closer Look", so Meyers was at the desk for a while, as they went straight into it from the monologue.  He seemed more into it than usual that evening, but YMMV.  Seth MacFarlane was the only guest, promoting Season 2 of Ted.  Not sure if anyone cancelled or they couldn't book a second guest, but they talked about *a lot* that wasn't Ted.

I'm glad I went, but I think the only chance I'd do this show again would be if there was a guest a liked, which is nearly impossible to know early enough to plan a trip around.  I got really lucky with Colbert this time around.

Glad your trip was a success.  And, I really appreciate the write-up.

Question:  When did you find out you were off the waiting list and had a ticket?  (I am on the waiting list for this Wednesday and haven't heard anything.)

For both Late Show and Late Night, I was taken off the waiting list less than a week before the taping date.

I had requested multiple dates for each show, and was getting messages about those dates until 2 days before the scheduled taping date.  In other words, there's still a chance you could get added two days before, but it's a tiny chance.

Many thanks!

I had put in a request for this past Wednesday and heard on the Monday before it that I probably wouldn't get a ticket -- which was okay because by that time I was looking at Chess for next Wednesday evening -- and managed to get an excellent seat at a good price for that show.

I still have to figure out where else I'm going before my Amtrak pass expires.
