Televised golf is sure to bring in the coveted demographic.

I expect a certain outlier sports-media type (or people working for him) to be shocked, shocked! that the CW was sold to Nexstar...

Now confirmed as being on the CW.

Reports suggest that the tournament is not paying for access, but it seems unlikely that this was a big money deal, since basically every other network has a relationship with the PGA that they can't afford to damage. I guess the CW has nothing to lose.

There's nobody in the UK signed up for this yet. Sky is in bed with the PGA, and BT Sport is now part of a deal with Eurosport, owned by Warner Bros Discovery who have PGA deals elsewhere. So they're off the table. That doesn't really leave anyone else - at least not with a noticeable footprint. In any case, golf has diminished as a popular sport in the UK with no live events on free TV at all. Even the Open and Ryder Cup only get highlights coverage on free TV.

I confess that Arlo White went down a lot in my estimation when he took the Saudi $$$ to become lead commentator for the tour.

And as Lesley Goldberg indicated in the link, the "Dare to Defy" era is over at the C-Dub and they're going after the older audiences on the smaller network stations that watch the talk shows and reruns.

Although I notice even the CW can't be bothered to give up whatever it carries regularly on Fridays. Coverage of the first day of events is relegated to their app...

I'm going to assume it's a clearance issue, or that Nexstar assumes that the normal syndicated daytime programming will still score better ratings than Blood Money Grassy Hole.

The CW ended their one hour of daytime programming--a holdover from the days of afterschool kids shows on The WB--a few years ago.  The last show they ran in the daytime was Jerry Springer reruns--before that, it was talk shows with rightwing radio guy Bill Cunningham, Tyra Banks and Dr. Drew and reruns of "Seventh Heaven."

The Greenbrier (Aug 4-6) is owned by Governor Jim Justice (R-WV), who answers the question “What if XLV were more folksy, more obese, and brought his English bulldog with him everywhere he went?” (Fwiw, he’s term-limited in ’24, so he may go after Manchin’s seat in the Senate.)

In regard to the subject header, only tournaments in North America will be broadcast live. The other five (out of 14) off-continent events will be tape-delayed to air in the same (1-6pm ET) broadcast window.

All rounds of all tournaments will stream live on the network's app.

In addition, 13 markets will have a non-CW outlet airing events.

And WGN in Chicago is one of them (Weigel's WCIU is the affil).  I'll be curious if this is the signal that the full CW affiliation will move back in the fall to Chicago's Very Own, a Nexstar station.

Up next for consideration at Nexstar HQ: the Pac-(insert number here) media rights.

There's precedent for this with at least one of the stations involved: WTOG was the initial Fox affiliate for the Tampa Bay area when the network was just the Joan Rivers show, but when Fox started moving to expand into prime-time, they dropped the affiliation and stayed independent. (In the following decade, they became a UPN affiliate.)

In Chicago Weigel's WCIU is not carrying the LIV package (Nexstar's WGN is).  I have been wondering if Nexstar is planning to either pull the CW affiliation from WCIU or offer to buy Weigel, which would include a merger of their vintage TV subchannels with Weigel's MeTV and their subchannels.

Not surprising that super rich Americans lasted one year in holding out against even more super rich Saudi murderers, but morally outrageous and appalling.

I wonder if Saudi women will be able to watch without a male member of their family escorting them?
