Singer, Actress Who Shot Spider Sabich Dies at 84

Claudine Longet was known for being Andy Williams' wife for fourteen years and a not-necessarily succes sful career as an actress and singer (her records of breathy vocals were playeWe d a lot on MOR radio but she never really had a hit) and became best known for shooting and killing her supposed-then boyfriend skiier Spider Sabich in 1976--accused of reckless manslaughter, she was convicted of criminally negligent homicide the next year and setenced to two years' probation and thirty days in jail (most of which she served on weekends), along with a $250 fine--the Sabich family sued her, but it was settled out of court with an agreement that she would not discuss the incident publicly--on Thursday, no details:

We should mention a notorious "SNL" sketch in 1976 called "The Claudine Longet Invitational Ski Tournament," where all of the contestants were killed by her. NBC demanded an apology from Lorne, and it ran the following week read by Don Pardo over a bumper slide with orders not to pipe it into Studio 8H.
