“Comedians in Cars Drinking Coffee” is back and the first episode is Eddie Murphy. It’s odd because it’s the worst episode I’ve seen in the series. Murphy is not comfortable until near the end, when he seems to warm up to Jerry Seinfeld. The cutting in heavy, like Murphy can’t string two consecutive sentences together in a coherent thought. The music is heavy as they speak, something I don’t remember from earlier episodes. And it’s 41 minutes. The typical CICDC is less than 20 minutes. Ricky Gervais gets two episodes in the latest season and combined it’s not 41 minutes.
After I watched it I googled to see other reactions and I noticed that Netflix is offering to drop $70 million to get Eddie Murphy to do a stand up comeback.

This smacks of trying to drum up interest in Eddie Murphy to justify a $70 million contract. To me, a hallmark of CICDC is its sharpness and focus. This episode with Murphy was just loopy.
I haven’t watched the episode yet, but Sebastian Maniscalco is back. The reason this sticks out to me is that I had not heard of Sebastian Maniscalco until I watched him on CICDC and I consider myself a fan of standup comedy. It’s odd Seinfeld is having people back. Is Maniscalco that hot right now? Does he have a compelling story to tell that he didn’t a couple of years ago? Was no one else available?

“Was no one else available?” could also be the response to Mr M hosting the VMAs next month on (apparently) every conceivable Viacom network.

<<Is Maniscalco that hot right now?>>

Yes he's that hot. Likely due to that first appearance, he's selling out arenas, like Madison Square Garden, across the country.

Maniscalco is also in the upcoming Scorsese film “The Irishman,” dropping this fall on — where else — Netflix.

By the way, Ricky Gervais was on in a prior season and he has two episodes this time. Gervais cracks up Seinfeld, but doesn't do so much for me in this episode, and I'm a Gervais fan.

They get coffee. They don’t necessarily drink it.
