Quickie Review: Star Wars - Acolyte

They should’ve named it “Crouching Tiger Hidden Jedi”. And they should’ve cast Chow Yun-Fat as Sol. Or they should’ve just used CGI on the sword fight sequences in the original Crouching Tiger to make the Green Destiny a light saber and rereleased that. 

I understand that most if not all art is derivative, and I already enjoy the series much more than the yawn-inducing Andor, but I had high hopes for a Jedi-centered Star Wars series, but… well… I need to stop getting my hopes up on Star Wars series.

I found this a bit ordinary, but then it's Star Wars and a 7-year old me in 1977 might have been more impressed.

Incidentally, I hard disagree on Andor which I believe was one of the best TV series of the year in any genre. Just beautifully constructed and I can't wait to see it return. 

At least The Acolyte is better than Boba Fett, Obi Wan and perhaps on a par with Ahsoka at this point. Only The Mandolorian and Andor are better thus far...

At this point, I am — to borrow a phrase from Dave S — hate watching this series. The online Star Wars community has nicknamed the big bad villain Darth Teeth because of his unintentionally comedic helmet ornamentation. And the big villain reveal… really… that’s your Hitler?! 

I will only add one other observation, which is hardly original but it is worth revisiting: the Jedi always, and I mean always, get their collective asses kicked in battle. We see so many Jedi die in the movies and tv shows that we are desensitized to it. I was looking forward to this series because it was to be focused on the Jedi and I wanted to see them at the top of their game, only to discover apparently they’ve always sucked.

I fervently believe those responsible for this series should be forced to stand near the GOP presidential candidate at every public event he has from now until the end of time.
