All times East: That's the 14th through 18th of December, when three games are played Saturday, all principally on NFL Network, but the league has to pick from five contests to determine those three... they took Vikings-Bengals (1pm), Steelers-Colts (4:30), and Broncos-Lions (8:15), leaving Falcons-Panthers and Bears-Browns to the Sunday networks, where Fox took both for 1 o'clock... there was also a flexing involving Monday night, a first in the league, where ESPN dealt Chiefs-Patriots to Fox (also at 1) for Eagles-Seahawks...

From a podcast interview with the NFL’s VP of Broadcast Planning: flexing is done to move playoff relevant games from 1 PM to prime time. So it’s not a simple matter of looking for games that will draw more viewers. The Chiefs and Patriots (Chiefs in, Patriots out) is less relevant than Eagles and Seahawks (Eagles in, Seahawks contending).

And the 4/4:30 national games get more viewers (30 million) than Sunday night (28 million) so the networks won’t agree to flex them to prime time.

Fox was planning to air Cowboys-Bills in 89% of the nation, with Eagles-Seahawks going to 10%. By moving the latter to ABC, Fox can pump Cowboys-Bills to the whole nation. (and you notice, the Cardinals used their blackout two weeks ago, knowing this could happen.

I read that Fox left Cowboys-Bills unprotected.
