Jimmy Johnson is north of 80, and the ex-Patriot has been in the Fox fold for a bit...

It’s such a close competition, but he is almost certainly the most irritating and obnoxious former player working on Sports television these days…

As long as the living corpse of Terry Bradshaw is around, I don’t even think he’s the most irritating on his own show

From now on, whoever the networks choose for their panel shows will be ex-players or coaches who have built their own audiences through social media. Gronk has done it and FOX wants to take advantage of his followers.

I’ve seen clips of Gronk interviews where he’s a doofus and others where he’s quite thoughtful about football and the life of a player. I don’t know which persona he’ll bring to FOX NFL Sunday and I also don’t care because I can only take the show in 30 second chunks at halftime.

He made frequent appearances last season, often to interact with Brady. His schtick is to alternate the doofus persona with the pseudo-thoughtful one, but I find each more obnoxious than the next.

None of these people are exactly likable, and Bradshaw is very hard to take. But they are already priced in to the background irritation of this show. Adding Gronk is adding net obnoxiousness, as Johnson was pretty much a non factor the last few seasons.
