A plaintiff in Wa(r)shington State bought a package of episodes of a forgotten Nick series earlier this year for just over $20, but when the show's license from Paramount expired, it went poof... yes, they tell you a title can be "bought," but fine print during the "purchase" process says you receive a limited license and agree(d) to their terms... she's bringing a class-action, even though a similar case is already before another court and a recent California law requires sellers to obtain buyer acknowledgement of buying a revocable license:

iTunes tried something similar several years back. I purchased a TV series but had not downloaded it, then when I went to, it said it was no longer available on the iTunes Store. It was a week of bouncing emails back and forth (it was so long ago, you could still get a human being to reply to an email) before they allowed me access to my purchase.

Now, as a precaution, I download every purchase onto an external hard drive as a backup for the day Apple gets bought buy Ask Jeeves or some equally ridiculous merger wipes out my purchase history.
