He was a high impact writer, on television, and in the earlier years of
this list. His books were interesting, but also infuriating. My problem
with him was not so much that I frequently disagreed with him, but that he
often seemed like the stereotype of a critic who cared more about his own
ego and rhetorical turns of phrase than he did about the work he was
writing about.

It’s been years since I even heard his name. As I recall, he tried to use
television criticism as a form of social criticism, but he didn’t seem to
like television (or society) very much.

I remember reading him in the Washington Post decades ago when I lived in
the DC area. He took TV seriously as a cultural force and not just mindless
entertainment.

I was surprised they didn't have a clip of the show on Colbert. I know they
probably won't film the premiere until the day of or the day before, but
surely they must have made some test shows?

Anyway, I also set a Season Pass. I wonder what percentage of current TiVo
owners are in this thread?

They don't even have a clip of the show on its Paramount + or Facebook pages.
I have my expectations set about as low as they were for the Hardwick edition, so I'll probably like it.  My only concern is whether it can really fill an hour.  The show seemed to work best with a high joke volume, and that takes a lot of work.

Just watched "comedy superstar" Tomlinson's appearance with Colbert last week, and my initial impression is that she's unfunny and bland enough that she won't distract from the guests.
I had expected gameplay similar to the original version ("Points!"), but the examples she provided Colbert indicate that Tuesday will be a one-off for me. The bar for success is low here, but it looked like it'll be awful (though still better than Byron Allen).

If the sample game Colbert played is any indication, there will be no jokes, so the work will be that much harder.

Sunday's Steelers at Buffalo game gets delayed to Monday at 4:30 (CBS) thanks to the massive winter storm pummeling the region:

(Here in Michigan, we're still digging out from a foot of snow overnight, with 50+ mph winds and more snow predicted for later today.)
Marti Lawrence <martil...@gmail.com>: Jan 13 10:35AM -0800

The playoff game here in Kansas City is going on as scheduled this evening,
despite the snow and record cold temperatures expected during game time.
We don't have much accumulation though, and the stadium has been preparing
by adding "warming stations" throughout the interior and parking lot of
Arrowhead.

But Tay-Tay will be there.

The game itself is on Peacock. NBC is airing another playoff game and is
scheduled to run a "Wild Card Playoff Special" at 8 tonight before the game
at 8:30 ET. (The game will be live on WTVJ in Miami and KSHB in KC.) I am
guessing once every minute that the host will be saying "the only way to
see this game is on Peacock--if you don't have Peacock, go to peacocktv.com
and sign up now and you'll see tonight's game!"

Meanwhile, NBC will be offering instead of the game at 8:30 a "Super
Special Preview" of "Deal or No Deal Island," followed by a repeat of
Monday's "AGT Dream League." If you want an "SNL" repeat, wait until 11:30.

Buffalo wants to keep the roads clear for snow plows and emergency
vehicles. Pittsburgh is a 3 hour drive away who knows how many fans got
secondary market tickets and are driving up.

I’ve sat through several Steelers games in single digit temperatures. By
the second half I just want the game to end and I don’t care who wins. One
game I went to the men’s room and it was packed with men getting away from
the wind and listening to the radio feed on speakers.

I sure felt old when I watched Jeopardy yesterday, and the clue was
something about Adrianna meeting her fate in the episode, "Long Term
Parking." I shouted out the answer immediately, but NONE of the contestants
knew it.

Played Doug Williams, aka Hope’s dad, for over 50 years on Days of Our
Lives. He and his wife Susan were as delightful off screen as they were on
screen. When I was an NBC page, he and a few others set the tone of
professionalism to be followed by the rest of the (younger) cast: keep it
light, but do it right. He was 98.

We enjoyed Big Bang Theory, and are fond of Young Sheldon, although I think
it is time to end it, as Sheldon is becoming annoying. The peripheral
family characters are OK as a part of the whole, but I don't see them
carrying a sitcom. I don't dislike them, I just don't think they are
interesting enough to be leads.
I could be way wrong though.
Guess we'll see.

Annie Nightingale was the first woman DJ hired by BBC Radio 1 in 1970--her
last program was on this past Dec. 19--working at night allowed her not to
follow a playlist but follow her heart, supporting punk and new wave in the
70s and techno music for many years thereafter--on television, she was also
a host of the long-running BBC2 music show "The Old Grey Whistle Test"--she
died Thursday at her London home after a short illness:

Just in time for Oscar voting--the other end of Barbenheimer is already on
Max--Hi Margot! Hi Greta!:

Peacock will also be adding most of Christopher Nolan's other films to
their lineup in February. Maybe Max should try to pick up "Lady Bird" and
"LIttle Women."
Mark Jeffries <spotl...@gmail.com>: Jan 13 10:36AM -0600

And the CDub has added "The Conners" reruns to the lineup, but running it
once a week. There have to be people at ABC who just want to wring Tom
Werner's neck for this deal, because it makes it look like the show moved
first-run to CW when it didn't.
