One of the last remnants of HBO's sports department, after weekday Wimbledon went to ESPN, the net ended boxing coverage and "Inside the NFL" moved to Showtime (and now The CW), the newsmag hosted by Bryant Gumbel is ending production after 29 years at the former "Network of Champions," 37 Emmys and three Peabodys--Gumbel just said that it was time to move on:

Since ESPN ended "Outside the Lines" last year and Fox Sports does not have any magazine program that does the sort of investigative reporting that "Real Sports" did so well, this is a true loss for journalism in sports as the nets don't want to do anything to anger the leagues and organizations that they buy the event coverage rights from for huge sums.

Is the re-booted Bob Costas show no longer on? Not exactly the same, but similar, potentially independent and critical take on big time sports.

The most recent episode aired in November of last year of "Back on the Record" (which I'd forgotten about). It's possible it may be back this fall, since it's a SAG-AFTRA Network Code, not scripted programming.
