I've always had a soft spot for Another World- in the 80s, but i've heard some old airchecks of AW from the late 60s-early 70s- and the writing was really good. The music was suppled by a organ that was used back in the radio days. Also a throwback to the radio days was the use of an announcer- in this case Bill Wolff, who was an NBC staff guy(like Don Pardo was then). Wolff mostly announced the sponsors and if needed cast changes and to tell viewers to stay tuned for You Don't Say(game show with Tom Kennedy) at the end. A lot of the older shows use announcers too- Alan Berns on CBS did Guiding Light for many years. Mel Brandt, who did the "in living color" announcements, also was the announcer for The Doctors too.

Do any of the current soaps have sponsor announcements like what Bill Wolff used to do on AW these days?

Not that I've ever seen... a local restaurant keeps the CBS o&o from Philly on all day and night, and "B&B" and "Y&R" don't. Takes up valuable time for program content or other things.

I don't think "Y&R" has had any since Bern Bennett retired in 03. "Days of Our Lives" hasn't to my knowledge.

Alan Berns, who's "this is CBS" id was heard till 2000, did "Guiding Light" for years. And Harry Kramer who did Edge of Night for years as well as being Walter Cronkite's announcer.

The music on soaps have changed- in my grandmom's day it was organ music. By the time i came along(1985) it was precoded.

Not having an announcer is another. Since Another World was an P&G soap, it meant hearing Bill Wolff deliver sponsor reads for Crest, Crisco, Head & Shoulders, Ivory, etc. and Crest is still P&G owned.
