I have a day job, so I haven’t been watching carefully.

Yesterday I spotted an episode of Judge Judy with the “25th Anniversary” graphics.

Gone is the season 24 hairdo and there’s a new announcer because Jerry Bishop passed away earlier this year.

However, the most interesting thing (for me) that I noticed is that the audience benches have been removed and Judy is now playing to an empty room. Just Officer Byrd and the people involved in the cases.

It doesn’t make much of a difference for the show, just an interesting concession to current events.

We occasionally catch People's Court, and this season has gone full virtual, with Judge Milian appearing on a video monitor from her bench, and monitors set up at the podiums labeled Plaintiff and Defendant, with those participants also only being there on the screens. The courtroom has no audience.  Harvey Levin still provides commentary, but in a remote location, with no crowd gathered around him for him to get responses from.

Actually, the hairdo was gone after season 23.

And, yes, I no longer have a day job.

Judge Mathis still has the participants in the courtroom, but there is plexiglass between them. The audience appears to have been reduced to about 8 people on chairs, all in masks.

And yes, I do have a day job, but it doesn't normally start until 2 p.m.

My mom liked the daytime court shows, especially the People’s Court. It was not an interest I shared with her.

Given the proclivity of streaming media, free and otherwise, I find it odd that low quality daytime TV is still continuing. I get that some people just like background noise as they go about their day, but most of what’s on from sunrise until afternoon rush hour is not suitable for man or beast.

Sorry about the day job, Melissa.

Background noise is exactly what I use it for on days when I don’t have a 3:00 conference call. So I really hadn’t looked up at the screen until yesterday.

Friday’s first show had a slide tribute to Jerry Bishop, so this season must have started recently.

Thanks -- but

No day job by choice!  (Although I occasionally temp for a local attorney.)

When I was a clueless teenager in college , and later in my early 20s, I inadvertently made some good choices:  (1) Capitol Hill employment for 5 years and 13 days, and (2) federal government employment under the old retirement system.
