As a lot of Canadians tonight, we are waiting to see what Canadian response will be to the trump tariffs on Mexican and Canadian stuff.

Anyone know if a tv show is a tariffed thing?   I'm familiar with the term Goods vs Services.    Is a tv show or a movie a Good?

Fyi....
The Canadian response will be streamed at 9pm ET on the gov't equivalent of C-SPAN

Everything in the developed world just became prohibitively more expensive. If we mange to avoid a global Great Depression, it will be nothing short of a miracle.

It seems like a TV streamer is a service not a good, but I guess you could think of the actual program, like on a DVD, as a good. In any case TV does not seem to be on Canada’s list of retaliatory tariffs.

Where I live, we are most interested in what will happen to US alcohol, especially Napa Valley wine. Looks like that will be hit hard.

“TORONTO (AP) — Canada and Mexico ordered retaliatory tariffs on American goods in response to sweeping tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, and businesses and consumers in both countries questioned Sunday how the new trade war might affect them.

Canada initially ordered tariffs of 25% on American imports starting Tuesday, including beverages, cosmetics and paper products worth 30 billion Canadian dollars ($20 billion). A second list of goods was to be released soon, including passenger vehicles, trucks, steel and aluminum products, certain fruits and vegetables, beef, pork, dairy products, aerospace products and more. Those goods were estimated to be worth 125 billion Canadian dollars ($85 billion)….”

Bread and circuses.

In 9 out of 10 provinces, the government has some degree of control over liquor distribution (Alberta is completely privatized) and sales.

Most of them have pulled, at a minimum, liquor from red states (bourbon, most prominently) odd the shelves.

California wine is likely to be affected, but possibly not to the same degree. It depends on whether the provinces and consumers are willing to maintain a distinction between products from red states vs those from blue states. It’s too early to tell.

For me, personally, I had plans to go to Las Vegas, Florida and Pennsylvania between now and July. Not anymore. I don’t see any reason to spend money in places that voted for this.

From what I've read, British Columbia is the only province that pulled the Red state alcohol .   All the other provinces that pulled alcohol did the all-USA criteria.

Apologies to our California friends.

The US/Canada tariff foolishness is over at least for now. They’re supposed to revisit it in 30 days but that’s enough time for GOP donors to convince Trump he’s damaging their businesses for no gain.

Much like the wall that he said Mexico would pay for (they didn’t), that would be finished (it isn’t), and would limit illegal migration (it didn’t), he will claim a victory and the press won’t hold him accountable.
