When's the last time something like this happened?

The only other similar situation I can think of is PAX TV's "The Reel to Reel Picture Show" in 1998, which also failed to pay contestants their winnings. (Host Peter Marshall paid the celebrity panelists out of his own pocket.)

I watched the premiere of "Lucky 13." I thought it was interesting, but not interesting enough to watch a second time.

The first season of “Your Big Break” promised they would produce a record with the winning contestant.

That’ll happen the same time I get the $3k Dick Clark owes me .

The company that produced the early-1980s Canadian game show "Pitfall" went bankrupt during production. Some contestants on later episodes didn't get their winnings, and host Alex Trebek had a paycheck bounce.

Trebek supposedly had the bounced check framed and on the wall of his "Jeopardy!" office.

Another Peter Marshall-helmed game, the 80s syndicated take on "Yahtzee," reportedly failed to pay most, if not all contestants in its short run. Make a quick Google search and you'll find the show was riddled with issues from the get-go.

The production company behind "Pitfall" was also behind a syndie revival of "Let's Make a Deal" in 1980-81 that was taped in Canada and, as you might expect, few, if any, contestants got their winnings.
