Apologies if I missed a prior posting here about this, but yesterday Zas Announced that, somewhat like Comcast, WBD will be creating separate divisions, one for its streaming (and studio) operations and the other for its cable operations.

Soon a basic cable channel will be the equivalent of a UHF channel…

Warner Bros. Discovery, led by CEO David Zaslav, has become the latest Hollywood studio to rework its corporate structure with an eye toward a possible spinoff of its legacy TV assets.

Warners on Thursday said it was reorganizing its corporate structure into a global linear TV division, separate from its streaming and studios division. That is probably true in terms of the irrelevance cable has for the entertainment and information lives of an increasing number of Americans.

But cable and linear programming is still a substantial cash generating business, and reaches millions of viewers, so not yet at Channel 23 status right now.

What we are seeing with these reorganizations is the players trying to insulate what they hope will be their growing streaming business from the death throes of the dying linear business, while still skimming off millions of dollars in cash still generated by linear to prop up streaming until it becomes profitable.
