The networks are slashing salaries and anchors have to take a pay cut to remain. We’re now out of the era of all star anchors and the prestige that once went with the job is gone.

I remember an interview with Tom Brokaw many years ago (Tom Snyder? Larry King? It’s been too long) where Brokaw said it was probably the last time we would see 3 white male anchors. I would appreciate the irony, if not the fact, if when this process shakes out we end up with 3 white male anchors at the networks.

The modern newscast is so distorted and perverted from its intended purpose that an anchor is no longer relevant to the format. If the shows were still genuinely about informing citizens about events and issues that matter, a trusted lead person is essential to that task. But any minimum wage earning chucklebutt can introduce human interest stories and segments that fail to even scratch the surface of the day’s news.
