I feel like a lot of people are going to place the blame squarely on omicron (which is valid)... but the real issue of bad press is obvious if you've been paying any sort of attention.

Of course it’s bad press related. The ceremony exists to be a cash cow for the organization. There is no reason to stream it without an advertiser or sponsor providing revenue and apparently nobody is stepping up at a level the HPFA deems acceptable.

I don’t think anyone will be blaming Omicron. It was never going to be televised, and there was never any announcement of how they would livestream something.

It would be nice if only second and third tier talent and projects desperate for the marketing boost showed up, AP while the top tier continues their boycott, underlining the pimp show that this is. Will Tom Cruise return and take the bow for Latest Top Gun?
