Hate breeds hate. Anger breeds anger. I don’t condone murder, but Charlie Kirk placed the value of human lives behind the 2nd Amendment. So what can an honest commentator say in light of what occurred? Thoughts and prayers?!

Whatever the fuck we're supposed to call them this week, I think I can safely say that I'm done with them.

Will I guess Kevin is never getting a "Contributor" role on a cable news network.

Semi related.... Rachel Gilmore in Canada is a former reporter for Global News (owned by Corus).  She was let go and went independent with Reel/tiktok/substack formatting of reporting.

Yesterday she made a post about her fear of what this Kirk killing will spark.   She then was slammed by a Canadian conservative politician , and then some nutjob made a website called Charlie's Murderers with reference to her.

The spiral continues.....

What really grinds my gears was this tool wouldn’t have even merited a footnote before someone shot him. He was utterly devoid of substance. He was an internet troll with a face. But now they will name bridges after him.

There was a great line in Babylon 5 when Londo was consoling Vir after an ordeal, and Vir was worried he was going to die. “Nonsense,” Londo replied, “You aren’t important enough to kill.” I believe all life is precious, but the person assassinated yesterday did not share that belief. He was proud of his beliefs. So who are we to deny the honesty of his views as a part of the discussion of his death.

I'll put this here... a "South Park" episode about a commentator similar to Kirk was pulled from Comedy Central, but is still available on Par+... Kirk told FoxNews.com it made him laugh:

Again, he now quite famously stated that a body count is an acceptable price to pay for the 2nd Amendment, so if he had so little regard for human life, I feel the field is wide open for whatever parody, satire, commentary, or criticism might befall him posthumous. In fact, as he considered himself an advocate of free speech (at least his own speech, and those who agreed Ruth him), it seems almost disrespectful to hold back.

Charlie Kirk was a reprehensible human being, symbolic of much of what is wrong in this country these days and responsible for no small part of it. But obviously he didn’t deserve to get murdered for his beliefs or political activism, and he’s not responsible for his own death. Did the MSNBC contributor’s comment indicate that Kirk was responsible for his own death or deserve to be murdered? I think it’s a grey area, though Dowd has since clarified that he did not mean that. Would a commentator at Fox News be fired for making similar comments about a liberal activist who was murdered? Unlikely ever and impossible today.

Dowd’s fate is hardly the most important concern in the last weeks events, But it’s unfortunate. He Should have been more careful -  In general, I think it’s good practice to wait until somebody has been buried before making your strongest and most negative public comments about him; There’s always time for that and unless he’s Henry Kissinger or some other total monster, there’s usually some value in respecting the space, family and friends need to mourn. But his firing does show how unequal the playing field is right now and how difficult it is for corporate news to describe and discuss honestly and accurately what is going on in this country.

Dowd explained on Substack that at the time he was asked about Kirk on-air, “the only thing known at the time was shots were fired and there was no reporting yet that Kirk was the target or had been shot at.”

He tried to apologize, like that'll accomplish anything. Let's wait for the administration to call for his suspension, or something.     B
