In the midst of all the sexual misconduct allegations, their response is to unionize. That’ll cure the sexual harassment. Yep. Problem solved. Crisis averted. It’s morning in America.

Seriously though, I’m surprised they weren’t already union. A reasonable scenario would be a story reported online gains traction and moves up to the broadcast network, which is (or at least was, unless things have changed) union. That seems overly complicated (dual contracts? single-instance waivers? independent contractor status at the network level?).

A number of years ago I was at a progressives' workshop, one of whose sponsors was the United Steelworkers Union. In one session women were asked to raise their hands if they worked in both union and nonunion workplaces. Then they were asked to describe the difference in the response to a harassment complaint when it came through a union as opposed to from an individual. They all agreed that having the union take a role made an enormous difference.
