No complaints from the Big Giant Head about Jon Oliver using the same clip later that night to make a similar argument. (And while LWT did use other clips from the interview during the opening segment – not available on LWT’s YouTube page – the clip in question was edited at the same point as on MTP.)

One of the (many) things the MSM just does not get is that, in this environment, they need to be purer than Caesar's wife. Sloppy crap like this is just fodder for not only idiots, but the "But Both Sides Do It!" crowd.

During the 2016 campaign it became clear that Trump showed no intention of telling the truth about any topic. I remembered the 1960s phrase Credibility Gap and I wondered how the news media would handle him if he won. If Trump continually lies he has no credibility. If the news media don't hold him accountable they have no credibility. The facts of the last three years are that the news media chose to defer to institutional authority instead of talking truth to power and their only defense against the long term loss of their credibility is their own institutional authority.
