It's the Peyton Manning-led revival of NBC's "College Bowl," already headed to a second season...  https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/nbc-renews-college-bowl-jeopardy-producer-harry-friedman-1235137222/ (link)

I personally know of at least six people who would’ve given their right arm to produce this show. Too bad for them there was an old white guy available.

Not just an old white guy: a "retired" old white guy!

And the main problems with the show are things he can't solve:  The changed format and the easier questions, which are the fault of the son of co-creator Don Reid (the changes were first implemented on the historically-Black-college version "Honda All-Star Challenge" and on some foreign versions of the show, but not the most successful, the UK's "University Challenge"--if Reid ever tried to pitch the format changes there, he would probably face the wrath of Jeremy Paxman), and the hosts, who are still going to be around because they are co-executive producers.

Friedman would make a great consultant… his decades of experience make him an asset. But showrunning is a game for the young, and there’s a lot of able and qualified candidates out there. Peter Lassally was a great consultant for Letterman, and Fred DeCordova was an asset to Leno, but they were past their respective primes after the Carson era. When I worked on game shows 25 years ago, they brought a bunch of crusty fossils out of mothballs… people who’d left the industry after the game show bubble burst in the early 1990s and begun different careers as real estate agents and car salesmen. I believe the lack of new blood resulted in the glut of WWTBAMillionaire clones we had to endure.
