While the guests are still videoconferencing in, both the CBS late night hosts are back in their respective buildings.

Colbert is doing the show from the office building above the Ed, in what is supposedly a recreation of his actual offices.  Various staffers are present, and Mrs. Colbert is off camera as usual (for how long is unclear).  Jon Batiste and company are still remote.  Stephen had a good interview with Dr. Jon LaPook focused on virus spread and vaccinations.

(side note: while I should have deduced this earlier, Colbert was shooting from whatever home he has in South Carolina, and not from NJ)

The Late Late Show production opted to revamp their stage for an audience-free production (though there sounds like more than a few staff in the studio).  The band is now stage right, and more spaced out.  The desk is more central, and in a sign of optimism, there are two club chairs set out like they are for Conan's studio show.  James sits in one, and the other is swapped out for a big monitor.

Corden's show opens with a bit where British Jimmy hurts himself repeatedly.  Depending on your feelings about him, you may or may not want to watch.

He never let on about that, though nobody really would...

Agreed.  But he casually let slip during one show that his 90-something year old father-in-law was at the residence.  In retrospect I thought that should have made me think he wasn't in NJ, and was probably in SC.  Both his and his wife's families are from there.

It remains to be explained why they would recreate his office rather than make, well, any set they feel like. Doesn't Stephen Wright have a joke about being in a place that's an exact duplicate of another place? It's eluding me.

(presumably they don't want to risk introducing pathogens into his actual office?)

I think they probably also made it bigger for cameras and however many are standing/sitting out of shot and distanced.

I also think Stephen was fibbing just a bit.  I'm skeptical that the little alcove featured in the short bumper promoting the next night's show is actually in his office.

From a strictly technical standpoint, recreating his office in a studio (or converting office space into a studio, then building an “office” set inside of it), is better from a production point of view. In an office you’ll get the hum of fluorescent lights, whirring copy machines, and an ambient temperature too warm to keep cameras and stage lighting working properly.
